After a steady freshman season and a standout summer in the Cape Cod League, the Miami Hurricanes’ speedy outfielder emerges as a high-value piece for the 2028 draft.
MIAMI, Fla. – Miami Hurricanes outfielder Dylan Dubovik was ranked the sixth-best Cape Cod Baseball League prospect for the 2028 MLB Draft, according to D1Baseball.
The Coral Springs (Fla.) native is coming off a productive freshman season with the Coral Gables program. He batted .312 with a .864 OPS, including 43 hits in 138 at-bats, six doubles, 30 runs batted in, and seven home runs in 42 games (34 starts).
Initially, Dubovik wasn’t consistently in the Hurricanes’ lineup, as veterans Max Galvin, Michael Torres, and Derek Williams occupied the outfield. He had limited opportunities until an expanded role opened up. Galvin suffered a foot injury in the Hurricanes’ 8-7 win over UCF on Feb. 17 and the 23-year-old was sidelined for six weeks.
Dubovik took over at left field and rose to the occasion. He had five hits in six at-bats, including two doubles, against the Lafayette Leopards on Feb. 22. In the Hurricanes’ first ACC series of the season, against the Boston College Eagles, Dubovik had three hits in five at-bats, including a home run, in the opener on March 6.
Once Galvin recovered and returned to the lineup, the 19-year-old went back to a reserve role. Although opportunities still presented themselves, Dubovik is ready to take on an everyday starting role. As Galvin departs from the program, he is likely to take over at left field.
This summer, Dubovik was assigned to the Wareham Gatemen in the Cape Cod Baseball League. He batted .172 with a .227 OPS, including 21 hits in 122 at-bats, five doubles, 10 runs batted in, and a home run in 35 games (34 starts).
After losing several veterans from last season, the Hurricanes will rely on a new young core of catcher Alonzo Alvarez, third baseman Gabriel Milano, and Dubovik. They were freshmen looking to learn; now sophomores responsible for leading. Dubovik has shown off some power, but what makes him valuable is being a speedy base runner. Last season, he didn’t attempt to steal any bases, but that will likely change next year.
The Hurricanes have a plethora of young talent on the roster, but a Dubovik breakout campaign could propel the team as a College World Series Contender.
Coach J.D. Arteaga is looking to end the program’s 25-year-old active National Championship drought. He’s shown progress in being competitive over the last couple of years, but next season could involve serious pressure. The Hurricanes have yet to release the 2027 schedule, but it could be coming soon.
