After flashing elite potential as a freshman, the Coral Springs native is primed for a full-time role in the Miami Hurricanes’ outfield as the program eyes a return to Omaha.
MIAMI, Fla. – Throughout the 2026 college baseball season, the Miami Hurricanes saw promising action from a few freshmen. Catcher Alonzo Alvarez gathered most of the attention – taking midweek game responsibilities behind the plate and being promoted full-time in early May. However, outfielder Dylan Dubovik was another freshman who shined with fewer opportunities.
The local Coral Springs native arrived on the Coral Gables campus as a top-100 recruit. He primarily came off the bench until an unfortunate circumstance occurred. Redshirt senior and left fielder Max Galvin suffered a left foot fracture on Feb. 17 against UCF and was set to miss six weeks. Coach J.D. Arteaga originally chose junior Fabio Peralta to fill the void, but later looked to Dubovik.
In a doubleheader against Lafayette on Feb. 21, the freshman was inserted in the starting lineup. Afterwards, Dubovik would stick in the expanded role, including the Florida series. He primarily started until Gavin returned on April 3 against Virginia Tech. Dubovik’s opportunities were once again limited.
However, a major shift in the lineup allowed him to return as a primary starter. Brylan West suffered a swollen ankle against Louisville; junior catcher Alex Sosa took over at first base, Alvarez was the main option behind the plate, and Dubovik was batting as a designated hitter. He ended the season as a center fielder against Troy in the Gainesville Regional.
Despite limited opportunities, Dubovik proved to be a reliable core piece to the program. He finished last season batting .312 with a .864 OPS, including 43 hits in 138 at-bats, six doubles, seven home runs, 30 runs batted in, and 70 total bases in 42 games (34 starts).
Dubovik was named to Perfect Game’s Freshman All-American Midseason List. Afterwards, he didn’t secure the accolade or any conference honors, mainly due to inconsistent playing time.
The incoming 19-year-old sophomore has only begun to scratch the surface. He’s currently on a summer assignment in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Wareham Gatemen. Dubovik is a projected full-time left fielder ahead of the 2027 college baseball season, which includes more at-bats.
Despite losing several key starters, the Hurricanes already had a new core to build around. Alvarez, Dubovik, and third baseman Gabriel Milano are looking to carry the program back to its former Omaha standards. The Hurricanes revamped the roster with 15 new transfers, plus 11 incoming freshmen.
Coach Arteaga is looking to end the program’s 25-year National Championship drought. He has the young talent, including Dubovik, to be competitive, but the lineup will feature several new faces next year.
