Michigan State
The Spartans are returning to Munn Ice Arena for the first time since their opening weekend of the regular season nearly a month ago.
After defeating then-No. 8 North Dakota last weekend in Austin, Texas, in the Hall of Fame Game, the Spartans will now look to take down another ranked opponent. This time, however, they will have the luxury of playing a two-game series on their home ice.
These two teams met last season when Boston University was ranked No. 1 in the nation. Michigan State traveled to Boston and swept the Terriers out of their own building, taking over the No. 1 spot in the national rankings in the process.
Now, the two teams will meet again as the Spartans look to not only hold off a dominant Boston offensive attack but also keep the winning momentum going for this young Michigan State squad.
Michigan State has been led by elite goal scorer Anthony Romani, who has netted seven goals through the team's first six games. Romani's 1.17 goals per game ranks second in the nation.
Romani also leads the team with 10 total points, adding three assists to go along with his seven goals.
The newcomers have stepped up as well. Freshman Jack Hextall is tied for second on the team in goals (2), while Chase Reid leads the team in assists (6). Transfer players have also made their presence felt, including Cullen Potter, who ranks third on the team with 16 shots.
However, the returning veterans are doing their part, too. Ryker Lee is second or tied for second on the team in goals (2), assists (5), points (7) and shots (20). Cayden Lindstrom and Eric Nilson have also found the back of the net twice each.
In net, freshman goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen has been dominant through his first five starts. He held his own against a high-flying North Dakota team that many have already penciled into the NCAA Tournament. The freshman will face an even tougher challenge against Boston, which will have two opportunities to test him over the weekend.
Boston University
Boston enters the weekend riding a three-game winning streak, with all three victories coming against ranked opponents.
After falling 5-4 in overtime to UConn two weeks ago, Boston flipped the script in the second game of the series, taking down the Huskies 6-3.
Then, last weekend, Boston faced off against then-No. 19 Maine. The Terriers swept the Black Bears, winning the first game 7-2 before taking the second game 3-2 in overtime.
Boston has played two overtime games in its last four contests. This is a team that knows how to battle and will do everything it can to keep games close.
The Terriers are led by Tynan Lawrence, who, much like Anthony Romani, has recorded seven goals and three assists this season. However, Lawrence has accomplished that through eight games, while Romani has done it in just six.
These two teams match up pretty evenly on paper, setting the stage for what should be some elite college hockey action in East Lansing.
