Tom Izzo battles blue-blood rivals to land the nation's sixth-ranked point guard as the Spartans aim to cement their reputation as the premier destination for elite playmakers.

The No. 44 player in the SC Next Top 100, Antonio Pemberton, has announced that he has set up official visits with seven different teams.

Of those seven teams, Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans have their hat in the ring, as they’ve locked in an official visit from Pemberton for September 11-13.

Per a report from Sam Kayser, Pemberton told League Ready that he’ll be traveling to the following schools on these dates:

Tennessee: August 21-23

Creighton: September 3-5

Ohio State: September 18-20

Boston College: September 25-27

UCLA: October 23-25

So, it will be no easy task locking down the 6-foot-1 point guard, who currently plays at Masters Academy International in Hanover, Massachusetts. However, it’s slowly becoming established that Michigan State might just be quickly turning into “Point Guard University,” with Jeremy Fears Jr. ready to lead the Spartans while also being one of the top candidates for Player of the Year.

Following in Fears' footsteps next year, it’s presumed that Jasiah Jervis will enter East Lansing as the next top point guard in the nation while also donning the green and white.

With that pedigree continuing to build in East Lansing, it would not be surprising to see Pemberton fall in love with Michigan State. He’ll be visiting before games get underway, so he’ll get to see the ins and outs of how the team prepares and exactly what work will be cut out for him if he ultimately decides to head to East Lansing.

Michigan State will be Pemberton’s fourth visit, as he’ll have already visited Tennessee, Kansas and Creighton in the weeks before arriving in East Lansing. Izzo certainly won’t want to see Pemberton leave Michigan State and continue taking visits elsewhere, meaning the Spartans will likely push hard during his time on campus.

It’s already going to be nerve-racking for Spartan fans watching Pemberton visit those three schools before coming to East Lansing. The Spartans will simply be holding their breath for about a month, hoping Pemberton remains open and uncommitted before his September 11 visit.

Per 247Sports, Pemberton is ranked as the sixth-best point guard in the nation in the 2027 class and the top recruit coming out of Massachusetts.

Izzo continues to push hard on the recruiting trail, with many offers extended to several different SC Next Top 100 players. With fall quickly approaching, it’s going to be time to start seeing some of those offers turn into commitments, and Antonio Pemberton is a name all Spartan fans should keep an eye on.

The Spartans have high expectations this year with the Wooden Award betting favorite leading the way, but Izzo isn’t remaining focused on the present alone. He’s always looking toward the future and searching for ways to make his team even better down the road.
