Ride the momentum of a 3-1 start as the Spartans unleash a high-powered offense against the Eagles. Lock in these three strategic plays for Saturday’s intrastate showdown.

Last Week: Four Bets

  • Cam Edwards Anytime Touchdown: Correct
  • Cam Edwards Over 74.5 Rushing Yards: Correct
  • Under 23.5 First Half Points: Wrong
  • Michigan State Moneyline: Correct

Overall: 3-1

It wasn’t too shabby of a week. My four hammered bets turned out to be correct three out of four times, with the under in the first half being the lone miss.

I thought there would be rain throughout the first half, but the football gods had other plans. An umbrella seemingly covered East Lansing while the surrounding cities were getting doused with rain during the game.

Now, we turn our attention to Week Two, where the Spartans will face off against the Eastern Michigan Eagles in another Big Ten-MAC battle for Michigan State.

This week, I’m narrowing things down to three bets instead of four.

So, let’s go for a ride.

Michigan State to Score Every Quarter (-120)

The Spartans' offense was rolling for almost the entirety of Week One.

With just one drive resulting in a punt, Michigan State worked its way into Toledo territory on every other possession. Five of those drives resulted in made field goals, while one ended with a blocked field goal and two resulted in touchdowns.

I don’t expect the Spartans' offense to slow down.

In fact, I expect it to get better and hungrier.

With Nick Sheridan calling the offense, Michigan State looked like a well-oiled machine at times. The passing game and rushing attack both showed plenty of life against Toledo, and I expect that to continue against Eastern Michigan.

I don’t see the Spartans getting shut out in any quarter.

Hammer it.

Michigan State Alternate Spread -13.5 (-178)

I love the Spartans to cover the actual spread of 17.5 points, but for these hammering bets, we’re going to buy it down to 13.5.

That means Michigan State simply needs to win by two touchdowns or more.

Eastern Michigan is coming off a six-point loss to Sacramento State, while Michigan State is coming off a 10-point victory over Toledo.

So, can the Eagles keep up?

Possibly — especially if the Spartans' defense allows the kind of game-changing plays it gave up last week. But I expect the Michigan State defense to be better and hungrier in Week Two.

The Spartans' secondary was embarrassed by Toledo at times, and Noah Kim can certainly throw the football for Eastern Michigan. That means Michigan State will still need to score, and I see the Spartans doing enough to win by at least two touchdowns.

Hammer it.

Michigan State Over 17.5 First-Half Team Total Points (-102)

The Spartans' offense should be even better this week, as I already alluded to.

Michigan State scored on five drives last week and finished the first half with 19 points. This time around, I expect the Spartans to find the end zone more often and settle for fewer field goals.

If Michigan State can put together two touchdowns and two field goals in the first half, we’ll cruise past the 17.5-point team total.

I expect a lot of Spartan points this week as Sheridan starts taking the top off the offense and allows Michigan State to attack more aggressively downfield than it did in Week One.

Give me the over.
