A classic Christmas poem, twisted for Michigan State fans

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house

Not a Spartan fan stirring, not even a mouse

The stockings were hung and decorated with the Spartan logo

In hopes that St. Izzo would soon snap a photo

The players were nestled all snug in their beds

While visions of Final Fours danced in their heads

Kohler in his PJs, and Coop in his MSU cap

They had just settled down for a long winter's nap

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter

They sprang from their beds to see what was the matter

Away to the window they flew like a flash

Tore open the doors and threw up the sash

The moon on the Breslin, covered in new fallen snow

Gave the lustre of midday to objects below

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear

But a head coach and eight gigantic basketball players?

With a little old driver, so lively and ready to go

Well, they knew in a moment it must be Tom Izzo

More rapid than Final Four appearances his coursers they came

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name

"On, Magic! On, Richardson! On, Cassius! On, Mateen!

On, Skiles! On, Payne! On, Mo Pete and Draymond Green!

To the top of the rankings! To the top of college basketball!

Now dash away, dash away, dash away all!"

The big dance is coming where Cinderellas learn to fly

When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky

So up to the Breslin rooftop the coursers they flew

With the sleigh full of cut nets, and Christmas Sweaters too

Then, in a twinkling, they heard on the roof

The prancing and pawing of each size 15 shoe

As they drew in their heads, and was turning around

Down the chimney Tom Izzo came with a bound

He was dressed all in Green, from his head to his foot

And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot

A bundle of trophies he had flung on his back

And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack

His eyes, how they twinkled! His face was a tad scary!

His cheeks were like roses, and despite a win there was no merry!

His bags under his eyes drooped very low

And the hair on his head was as white as the snow

An angry snarl permanently on his face showing his teeth

And the rim it encircled his head like a wreath

He had a broad face and a little round belly

That shook when he yelled, like a bowlful of jelly

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head

Soon made them know they had nothing to dread

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work

Preparing the team with a sly little smirk

And laying a finger to the tip of his nose

To the top of the Big Ten MSU rose

He sprang to his sleigh, and to his team gave a whistle

And away they all flew to the top of the Big Ten hill

But I heard an exclaim, for fans of the team in blue it wasn’t so keen

"Merry Christmas to all, and to all, GO GREEN!"
