Sidney Rouleau Decommits From Michigan, Leaving Wolverines With Offensive Line Opening

Michigan’s 2027 recruiting class underwent a change Tuesday evening when offensive lineman Sidney Rouleau decommitted from the Wolverines. His departure leaves Michigan with 21 commitments, including three offensive linemen, as the staff continues building its next recruiting class.

Rouleau originally committed to Michigan on March 29 after visiting Ann Arbor. A native of Gatineau, Quebec, who plays for The Brook Hill School in Bullard, Texas, he had been an early recruiting addition for offensive line coach Jim Harding. Michigan secured his pledge after the new coaching staff renewed its pursuit and brought him to campus in late March.

That commitment lasted more than seven months before Tuesday’s development reopened his recruitment.

Syracuse is a program to watch following the decision. Rouleau took an official visit there over the weekend and attended the Orange’s victory over SMU. He subsequently shared a positive message about the trip on social media. However, his decommitment does not mean he has committed to Syracuse. Interest and a completed flip remain separate developments.

There is also reason to avoid presenting the departure solely as Michigan losing a recruiting battle. Reports indicated that the Wolverines were moving on from Rouleau. The exact circumstances behind the separation remain unclear, making it premature to assign a definitive explanation for why the relationship ended.

For Michigan, the immediate question becomes how to complete its offensive line group. Jakari Lipsey, Lincoln Mageo and Louis Esposito remain committed, providing a foundation at the position despite Rouleau’s exit.

The Wolverines have continued pursuing other options. Former NC State commitment Conner Rutherford and Stanford commitment Braden Chaffin are reportedly scheduled to visit Ann Arbor this weekend for Michigan’s matchup with Michigan State. Those visits now carry additional intrigue as Harding evaluates the remaining possibilities for the class.

From a roster-building perspective, Michigan’s response will matter more than the immediate reaction to one departure. Offensive line recruiting requires balancing projected positions, physical development and the number of prospects a program wants to bring into the room. Replacing a commitment should involve finding a player who fits those plans rather than simply restoring a previous total.

Keeping the remaining offensive line commitments together also becomes an important part of finishing the class. Michigan can continue evaluating additional prospects while strengthening the relationships already established with players who intend to join the program.

Tuesday’s news changes the makeup of Michigan’s class, but the final impact remains unsettled. Rouleau has another decision ahead, while the Wolverines have an opportunity to redirect their recruiting efforts. The next commitments and campus visits will provide a clearer indication of how Michigan intends to finish its offensive line haul.
