Wolverines battled back in a scoring frenzy, snatching the lead and silencing Wisconsin's perfect season with late empty-netters.

It was not for the faint of heart, but the No. 2-ranked Michigan Wolverines held on for a 7-4 victory over No. 10 Wisconsin on Friday night, handing the previously unbeaten Badgers their first loss of the season. After Michigan established a multi-goal lead in the third period, Wisconsin mounted a furious comeback to briefly take the lead, only to have the Wolverines respond with four straight goals—including two empty-netters—to secure the win in a frenetic conclusion at Yost Ice Arena.

The high-octane affair showcased two of the nation's best offenses, with both teams trading blows throughout the night. Michigan came into the series boasting the country's most prolific offense, a reputation they upheld with seven goals. For Wisconsin, the night represented a first-of-its-kind challenge: a true road test against a top-tier opponent after a series of decisive home wins.

Michigan drew first blood, as Garrett Schifsky netted his fourth goal of the season just under eight minutes into the game, assisted by Aidan Park and Adam Valentini. Wisconsin responded with a goal of their own from Luke Osborn to tie it up, and added another from Gavin Morrissey to take the lead 2-1.

The back-and-forth continued into the second period. Gavin Morrissey gave the Badgers the lead at 2-1, but Malcolm Spence and Josh Eernisse netted a goal a piece to bring the Wolverines lead to 3-2. Goals by Simon Tassy and Ryan Botterhill gave Wisconsin the 4-3 lead in the third.

With the game on the line, the Wolverines dug deep, relying on their experience and depth. Michael Hage was able to tie the game up at 11:18 in the third period at 4-4. A few minutes later Will Horcoff made an amazing play to give Michigan what would be their game winning goal. Wisconsin, desperately trying to tie it up and avoid their first loss, pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. However, the move backfired as Michigan capitalized with two empty-net goals in the final minutes to seal the win.

The victory extends Michigan's winning streak to three games and reaffirms their status as one of the Big Ten's elite teams. For Wisconsin, while the final result was a loss, their performance demonstrated their ability to compete with the best. The Badgers' comeback effort showed their tenacity and that they are not to be taken lightly, even when facing adversity on the road.

The two teams will meet again in the series finale, with Wisconsin looking to avenge their loss and Michigan hoping to maintain their dominance. Fans can expect another thrilling, high-scoring contest as these two Big Ten powerhouses clash once more.  Tonight’s game will be played again in Ann Arbor being aired on the Big Ten Network with puck drop scheduled for 8:00.

While it is tough to be a good team twice, especially back-to-back, Michigan seems to have the firepower night in and night out to get the job done.  Their high output scoring offense, coupled with their outstanding goaltending is going to be a big reason why they have the ability to score on the average 5.8 goals per game this season.
