Michigan defensive tackles coach Larry Black had a laugh while reminiscing about a big play he just missed out on while playing for Indiana against Michigan back in 2010.

Michigan defensive tackles coach Larry Black is an Indiana alum, so this week means a little more to him. During his press conference he was asked about his fondest memory while playing for the Hoosiers. He immediately recalled when Michigan and his brother Jibreel Black came to Bloomington for a back-and-forth showdown. The Wolverines prevailed that day, but as Black outlines in the video above, he almost made the big play IU needed.

Michigan at Indiana — Bloomington, Indiana 10/2/2010

Michigan and Indiana put on an offensive show in Bloomington, but when the dust settled, it was Denard Robinson and the Wolverines who made the plays that mattered most. Behind another electrifying performance from their dynamic quarterback, Michigan escaped Memorial Stadium with a 42-35 victory to improve to 5-0 on the season.

Robinson was once again the centerpiece of Michigan's offense, finishing with 277 passing yards and three touchdowns while adding 217 rushing yards and two more scores on the ground. His 494 yards of total offense highlighted an afternoon in which Indiana simply had no answer for his combination of speed and playmaking ability.

The Wolverines wasted little time making their presence felt. Robinson broke loose for a 72-yard touchdown run on Michigan's opening possession, immediately putting Indiana's defense on notice. Michigan continued producing explosive plays throughout the afternoon, including a 70-yard touchdown pass from Robinson to Junior Hemingway.

However, the Hoosiers refused to go away.

Indiana quarterback Ben Chappell was outstanding in his own right, completing 45 of 64 passes for 480 yards and three touchdowns. His ability to consistently move the football through the air exposed Michigan's defensive weaknesses and kept the Hoosiers within striking distance throughout the contest.

Indiana receiver Tandon Doss was particularly difficult to contain, catching 15 passes for 221 yards. The Hoosiers repeatedly found success attacking Michigan's secondary, turning what initially looked like another comfortable Wolverines victory into a back-and-forth battle.

Michigan entered the fourth quarter leading 35-28, but Indiana continued fighting. Chappell eventually connected with Darius Willis for a 19-yard touchdown with just over a minute remaining, tying the game at 35 and putting enormous pressure on Robinson and the Wolverines.

That pressure didn't seem to bother Michigan's sophomore quarterback.

Robinson quickly moved the Wolverines down the field, connecting with Hemingway for a 42-yard gain that put Michigan in position to steal the victory. Just moments later, Robinson capped the decisive drive with a 4-yard touchdown run with 17 seconds remaining, giving Michigan its final 42-35 advantage.

The victory kept Rich Rodriguez's Wolverines undefeated heading into a highly anticipated matchup against Michigan State. However, it also reinforced concerns about a defense that surrendered 568 total yards.

For Michigan, the afternoon was another reminder of just how special Robinson could be. The Wolverines weren't perfect, particularly defensively, but with No. 16 under center, they were capable of winning a shootout against just about anyone.
