Belleville standout Tre Britton III dominated Columbus, earning Rivals MVP honors while fueling rumors of a high-speed reunion with former teammate Bryce Underwood in Ann Arbor.

The Michigan football program is currently surging on the recruiting trail under the leadership of head coach Kyle Whittingham. Among the most electric targets on the Wolverines' radar is Belleville High School standout wide receiver Tre Britton III. Britton has rapidly evolved from an in-state secret to a national recruit, a transition punctuated by his dominant performance at the recent Under Armour Next Camp Series in Columbus, Ohio.

The Under Armour MVP Performance

At the Under Armour Columbus event, Britton III didn’t just compete—he separated himself from an elite field of athletes. His performance earned him the prestigious Rivals MVP honors for the wide receiver position. Evaluators at the camp highlighted Britton’s exceptional quickness, sharp route-running, and a catch radius that defies his 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame.

Britton’s "explosive release" and "elite speed-in-space" were on full display, proving he can burn man-to-man coverage without needing elaborate fakes. This MVP turn has solidified his status as one of the premier playmakers in the Midwest, specifically in the 2026 and 2027 cycles, where he is consistently ranked among the top 10 players in the state of Michigan.

Reunited with Bryce Underwood?

Perhaps the most compelling storyline surrounding Britton’s recruitment is his history with current Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood. The two were teammates at Belleville High School, where they built a rapport that led to prolific offensive numbers.

With Underwood now leading the quarterback room in Ann Arbor, the prospect of reuniting with his former "go-to" target is a major factor in Britton’s recruitment. For Michigan, landing Britton would mean:

• Built-in Chemistry: The "pitch-and-catch" rhythm between Underwood and Britton is already established from their time at Belleville. This could shorten the learning curve significantly once Britton arrives on campus.

• Vertical Threat: While Underwood has the arm talent to stretch the field, Britton has the "breakaway speed" to take a routine screen or a deep post to the house.

• The Belleville Pipeline: Successfully recruiting Britton further cements Michigan’s dominance at Belleville High School, one of the state's most consistent talent producers.

What Britton Brings to the "Run First" Identity

Despite Michigan’s "run first" identity, Whittingham’s offense requires elite perimeter threats to keep defenses from stacking the box. Britton III is often compared to NFL stars like Amon-Ra St. Brown or Jaxon Smith-Njigba because of his technical precision. He isn't just a track star; he is a "polished" receiver who understands how to exploit soft spots in zone coverage and fight for contested balls in traffic.

Michigan is currently locked in a high-stakes battle for Britton’s commitment. While programs like Missouri, Miami, and Nebraska are in heavy pursuit—with Missouri currently favored by some recruiting machines—the Wolverines are making an "all-out blitz" to keep the in-state star home.

With official visits scheduled for Ann Arbor this summer, the Michigan staff has a prime opportunity to close the deal. If the Wolverines can secure Britton III, they aren't just getting an Under Armour MVP; they are getting a dynamic weapon who already speaks the same "football language" as their franchise quarterback. For Michigan fans, the vision of Underwood finding Britton III under the lights of the Big House is a future that feels closer than ever.
