Mizzou basketball forward Mark Mitchell earns Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors.

COLUMBIA — Mizzou basketball's team captain and leading scorer just picked up his first piece of hardware for the 2025-26 season.

Mark Mitchell was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday for his efforts the past week. Mitchell led Missouri to victories over No. 22 Tennesse on Tuesday and Mississippi State on Saturday, averaging 20 points and 3.5 rebounds per game on 58.3% shooting.

He scored 23 points against while hauling in three rebounds and dishing out two assists Tennessee, while scoring 17 points, grabbing four rebounds and earning one assist.

Mitchell is the first Tiger to win SEC Player of the Week honors since Caleb Grill on Jan. 20, 2025. He is leading Missouri three major counting categories at 17.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

His recent success had led to Mizzou playing its best basketball in recent weeks, as the Tigers are 6-2 in their last eight and 3-1 in their last four games with two wins over ranked opponents. Mizzou and Mitchell are now sitting as the No. 4 seed in the SEC Tournament, which begins March 11.

Before postseason play kicks off, Missouri will play Oklahoma in Norman at 6 p.m. Tuesday and host No. 20 Arkansas at 11 a.m. Saturday. Mitchell scored 25 points — three of which were on a game-winning, buzzer-beating 3-pointer — against Oklahoma, and scored 26 points in the Tigers' loss to Arkansas.

A repeat of SEC Player of the Week isn't out of the question, should Mitchell put up similar numbers.
