Missouri seeks proven arms and rising stars. Discover ten more transfer portal quarterbacks who could lead the Tigers' offense next season.

Our first rendition of quarterback targets for Missouri included seven options, and was made in Dec. 18 in wake of Beau Pribula's departure from the program.

Since then, dozens of quarterbacks have reported intention to enter the transfer portal, Missouri hired a new offensive coordinator in Chip Lindsey and Matt Zollers proved he likely wasn't enough to be the sole option for Missouri's QB1 in 2026.

Neither Pribula or Zollers were the ideal successors to Brady Cook, who is still the only Missouri quarterback in the last 10 seasons to win a bowl game for the Tigers.

Here's 10 more quarterbacks the Tigers could target to be his true successor upon the portals' opening Jan. 2.

Experienced Starters

Rocco Becht, Iowa State

Becht, a three-year starter at Iowa State, has thrown for 9,274 yards and 64 touchdowns to 27 interceptions in his tenured collegiate career. Becht's throwing usage decreased from 456 attempts in 2024 to 339 in 2025, likely at least partially due to his nagging shoulder injuries — a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder and an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder — the first of which he eventually underwent surgery for in December.

His most likely destination spot would be following his former head coach Matt Campbell to Penn State, given the pairs' longstanding relationship. However, ruling out a playoff-hopeful program such as Missouri wouldn't be wise, as the Tigers have the funds and supporting cast for a talented quarterback to succeed.

Should Becht choose Missouri, he could spend his final season of eligibility as the Tigers' starter while Zollers learns from him, and burns his redshirt for the 2026 season to lengthen his future.

Josh Hoover, TCU

Hoover saw efficient success in his two-year stint as a full-time starter at TCU, throwing for a combined 7,421 yards and 56 touchdowns to 24 interceptions between 2024 and 2025. The redshirt junior now enters the portal with one season of eligibility remaining.

While he led the Horned Frogs to nine wins in 2024 and eight in 2025, he struggled in his lone two games against ranked opponents in the seasons. He threw for 183 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions against No. 13 BYU Nov. 15, and immediately followed it up with 293-yard, two-touchdown and three-interception game against Houston the next weekend.

Should the former three-star recruit bring his talents to Missouri, he'd follow Sam Horn in the trend of Tiger quarterbacks to play baseball — Hoover was a two-sport athlete in high school. More importantly, he would bring experience under center that Missouri sorely lacked in 2025.

Young Guns

Drew Mestemaker, North Texas

Mestemaker enters the portal fresh off an impressive 2025 campaign with the Mean Green in which he threw for 4,379 yards and 34 touchdowns to just nine interceptions, earning the AAC Player of the Year. The 6-foot-4, 211-pound redshirt freshman will attract attention from plenty of Power Four schools, given his lengthy remaining eligibility combined with apparent win-now capabilities.

Mestemaker's efficiency despite initial inexperience was unique — he had four games with four total touchdowns to no interceptions. His deep ball was also alive and kicking, as he completed a pass for 40 or more yards in nine games, and 60 or more yards in five games with a season-high of 84. The only drawback on Mestemaker would be his ability to translate the level of play against elite defenses — he threw six of his nine picks on the season against the only two ranked teams he played in South Florida and Tulane, and threw an additional two against San Diego State in the New Mexico Bowl.

His former head coach, Eric Morris, is now the head coach at Oklahoma State, who will likely be a leading suitor for Mestemaker. However, if Mestemaker desires to make the leap to the SEC rather than the Big 12, Missouri could come calling with a pitch of playing alongside one of the nation's best run games and a bigger national spotlight.

Bryce Underwood, Michigan

Underwood, a former five-star recruit in the class of 2025, would be an interesting option. He wouldn't provide experience like Missouri may be searching for, but rather would be a long-term answer. He started 12 games in his true freshman season, throwing for 2,229 yards, nine touchdowns and six interceptions along with tacking on five rushing touchdowns and 323 yards on the ground — not a perfect season, but enough to help Michigan win nine games and score 21 or more points in each of them.

He has not been reported to have intentions of transferring yet, but the departure of his former OC Chip Lindsey — who is now at Missouri — and former head coach Sherrone Moore change his situation with the Wolverines dramatically.

Underwood's dual-threat ability could help to create the diverse backfield Missouri originally sought when bringing in Pribula alongside Ahmad Hardy. However, his only drawback would be a misalignment in timelines — Underwood may not be ready to captain a high-octane SEC offense next season, which will be Hardy's last season of college football. If Missouri wants to compete in the window of Hardy, a more experienced option may be the route to follow.

Wildcards

Max Johnson, UNC

Another Lindsey connection is sixth-year quarterback Max Johnson, who will be entering his seventh season of college football in 2026. Lindsey coached Johnson for a season in 2024, but they didn't truly get a chance to work together — injuries prevented the dynamic from forming.

Where he truly shined was his first two seasons at LSU. Johnson threw for 1,069 yards, eight touchdowns and one interception in five games as a freshman, and 2,815 yards, 27 touchdowns and six interceptions in his sophomore season, ending it with a three-touchdown performance in a 27-24 win over No. 15 Texas A&M.

However, head coach Ed Oregon's departure also marked the end of Johnson's time with LSU — he would transfer to the very team he beat in Texas A&M. Unfortunately for Johnson, he broke a bone in his throwing hand and broke multiple ribs over his two seasons with the Aggies, and a broken femur in his 2024 season with UNC, limiting him to just 17 games over the past four seasons.

Perhaps reuniting with Lindsey and getting the chance to do what they never got to in Chapel Hill could be enticing for Johnson. Although many years ago, he's proven capable of leading a successful SEC offense before, and could do it again at Missouri.

Trinidad Chambliss / Austin Simmons, Ole Miss

Ole Miss was in the spotlight for the majority of the 2025 season, largely thanks to these two and former head coach Lane Kiffin. Kiffin left the program and is now the head coach at LSU, and will likely target one of the pair to be his next starter.

Ole Miss defeated LSU 24-19.

Simmons started the Rebels' first two games, throwing three touchdowns and five interceptions against Georgia State and Kentucky before going down with an ankle injury, leaving Chambliss to take his job and never look back. Chambliss, a former Division II transfer from Ferris State, tallied 27 total touchdowns to just three interceptions on the season and broke out as a star in the SEC.

Neither have officially entered the portal yet, as Ole Miss' season isn't over, but there's a strong chance both do. Chambliss is looking for a waiver to grant an extra season of eligibility, and Simmons likely wants his chance to be a QB1. The most likely scenario is for one to follow Kiffin to LSU and the other to stay at Ole Miss, but Missouri could swoop in and make a bid.

G5 Standouts

Colton Joseph, Old Dominion

Joseph emerged as one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in all of FBS, combining for 3,631 yards and 34 touchdowns to 10 interceptions on the season. He was one of five quarterbacks to eclipse 1,000 rushing yards on the ground, and led Old Dominion to a 10-3 record, winning by 17 or more points seven times, along with falling to Indiana by only 13 points.

Joseph took home Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year honors, but could now be primed to continue his success at a higher level. A triple-threat backfield between Joseph, Hardy and Jamal Roberts would give Drinkwitz and running backs coach Curtis Luper an elite trio to scheme with, should Joseph come to Missouri.

Alonza Barnett III, James Madison

Joseph's Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year season was impressive, but Barnett's outright winning of the Sun Belt Player of the Year season was even more so. Barnett combined for 3,395 yards and 38 touchdowns between the air and the ground to eight interceptions, and led JMU to a spot in the College Football Playoff.

His 2024 season saw similar success, combining for 3,040 yards and 33 touchdowns to just four interceptions — Barnett is now a multi-year standout with proven qualities to be a full-time starter. After spending his first four seasons at JMU, he'll have the chance for a change of scenery, which would potentially be with Missouri.

Andrew Body, Alabama State

Body is coming off his fifth — and best — season yet as a college quarterback. He totaled 2,288 yards and 24 touchdowns to just one interception in eight games at Alabama State before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury against Prairie View A&M.

Yes, the jump from the SWAC to the SEC would be enormous, and Body certainly wouldn't be Missouri's first choice, but he's a fun, under-the-radar option should all else fail.
