Nebraska will play on linear television 14 times, including against Wisconsin on FOX
The Big Ten Conference tournament is getting a big stage for its debut.
The championship match for the inaugural year of the league tourney will air on FOX Wednesday night, November 25. The Big Ten title match will be the first time a broadcast network will carry a volleyball conference championship match.
The television schedules for Big Ten teams were released on Monday in conjunction with the league’s fifth annual media day. The first round along with the quarterfinals and semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament will be aired on BTN. The second round matches on Saturday will be shown on B1G+. The first-year event will be played at the Fishers Event Center, just outside of Indianapolis.
Until last year, the Power Four conferences did not host end-of-the-season conference tournaments. (The Big East and many mid- and low-major conferences use the tourneys to award postseason bids.) The SEC brought back its tournament last year with the title match shown on the SEC Network.
FOX will also carry the Huskers’ regular season match against Wisconsin on October 10. The time for that match will be determined as NU football hosts Indiana, the defending national champions, on the same day. Nebraska's match against Missouri at Wrigley Field will also air on 40.
The only other matches set to be aired on FOX involving Big Ten teams will happen in the first week of the season. Wisconsin and Louisville will play on the network in Milwaukee as part of the First Serve Showcase. In addition, the Friday matches (Creighton vs Purdue and Minnesota vs Arizona State) of the State Farm Showcase at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, will be on FOX.
Overall, Nebraska will have 15 matches aired on national broadcasts, including one on FOX, two on FS1 and 11 on BTN. The 15 matches are one more than Wisconsin for the most on FOX, FS1 and BTN. Penn State, Purdue and Minnesota will have 12 matches aired on those networks.
Nebraska will also have several matches shown on the ESPN family of networks, with those announcements coming soon. Television details have not been made for NU's matches in Dallas, Las Vegas or South Dakota State among other matches.
The Huskers will be shown on FS1 twice, including a home bout against UCLA on Thursday, October 22 and a road trip to Washington on Sunday, November 8.
NU will have four nonconference matches shown on Big Ten Network — at DePaul on Friday, September 4, vs. Baylor on Friday, September 11, vs Creighton on Wednesday, September 16 and vs North Carolina on Friday, September 18. The Huskers are scheduled to have seven league matches on BTN, including Ohio State, Penn State, Indiana, Purdue, USC, Oregon and Minnesota.
The remainder of the Big Ten matches will be carried on B1G+, and Nebraska Public Media could also pick up some of those. Those matches and start times will be announced at a later date.
The league is bringing back the Discover Volleyball Challenge for the month of October. The weekend matches from October 3 to November 1 will count towards the standings. Nebraska won the inaugural challenge with a perfect record and without dropping a set in the month.
