Nebraska baseball continues to secure depth for its future bullpen options. The Huskers' latest commit comes from within their own borders. 

Kearney baseball's Will Kaskie announced his commitment to Nebraska baseball on Thursday, sharing his news on his personal social media pages. Kaskie is a right-handed pitcher in the 2028 class and will be an incoming junior at Kearney Catholic High School. He played his first varsity baseball last season for the consolidated program between Kearney Catholic and Kearney High School, but has been active in summer Legion activity and other prospect camps. 

"First off, I want to thank God for giving me the ability to play this game and for guiding me every step of the way," Kaskie wrote on his X post. "I am incredibly grateful to my family for their endless sacrifices, and to my coaches and friends who always believed in me and pushed me to be my best. With that being said, I am extremely excited to announce that I have committed to the University of Nebraska to continue my academic and baseball career! Thank you to Coach Bolt and the entire staff for this opportunity. Let’s get to work!"

Kaskie finished his sophomore season with Kearney batting .337 with 31 hits, including a double and four triples. The future Husker batted in 18 runs while scoring 20 himself. The sophomore added nine stolen bases to lead Kearney baseball in the category.   

His best work, however, may have come on the mound with a 2.33 ERA in eight appearances. He would end his sophomore campaign going 2-1 overall including two saves in 27 innings. The righty faced 109 batters in his eight appearances, allowing 19 hits with nine earned runs, including a diminutive five walks to 41 strikeouts. 

This summer, Kaskie remained busy playing for the Kearney senior Legion program while splitting time with future and prospects games. During a Legion district baseball matchup in June, Kaskie tossed 11 strikeouts in a win over Hastings and later had a two-home run game to go with eight strikeouts from the mound.

Kaskie has showcased his velocity and control on his social media pages, posting on Aug. 4 his 93.9 MPH fastball. The incoming junior noted that his speed had increased from the previous year, adjusting from 91.7 MPH to 93.3 MPH. 

The summer has been kind to Nebraska baseball's latest additions, as Kaskie joins 2027 in-state commit Colton Williams from Millard West as a future Cornhusker. Williams announced his verbal commitment to the Huskers in June, and Nebraska's future bullpen has now added two in-state candidates to keep the cupboard full for options down the road. 

Unlike Williams, who is part of the 2027 class, Kaskie becomes the first member of Nebraska's 2028 cycle. The future depth lines up ideally with a Nebraska roster that may need more arms in the coming seasons. 

The Huskers had 22 pitchers on their 2026 roster but lost several depth pieces and key starters to the transfer portal, graduation, and the MLB Draft. Cooper Katskee, Blake Encarnacion, Carter Kutz, and Blake Sebastian all exited the program via the transfer portal, while starter Ty Horn announced his decision to leave Nebraska for the MLB Draft. Horn was later selected in the third round, while Carson Jasa was also selected later by the Chicago Cubs.  

The cupboard does not remain bare for Nebraska's pitching options, however, as the Huskers are set to return several key pieces including J'Shawn Unger, Gavin Blachowicz, and Tucker Timmerman. Unger was a 2026 Stopper of the Year finalist after earning second-team All-Big Ten honors with a team-high 25 relief appearances and 13 saves, going 6-1 with a 4.05 ERA. Timmerman had a team-high 25 appearances on the mound for Nebraska, going 3-1 with a 4.43 ERA and one save.

Will Bolt's Huskers finished out a historic 2026 season going 43-17 overall, reaching the 40-2 win mark for the 20th time in program history and the second time under Bolt as head coach. Nebraska also hosted a Lincoln regional for the first time since 2008, clinching the program's third consecutive regional appearance. Add in the fact that the Huskers notched back-to-back Big Ten Tournament titles in 2024 and 2025, and Nebraska athletic director Troy Dannen had the confidence to extend Bolt through 2032. 

“Will and his staff have done an outstanding job of continuing to elevate the level of success in our baseball program,” Dannen said last month. “Making three consecutive NCAA appearances and earning the opportunity to host a regional for the first time in almost two decades reflects the culture, development, and leadership of our entire baseball staff. We are excited to extend Will and his assistant coaches as we continue building momentum and pursuing championships at Nebraska.”

Assistant coaches Rob Childress, Lance Harvell, and Mike Sirianni also inked new extensions through the 2028 season. The staff has compiled 213 wins under Bolt's seven seasons. That run has included three conference titles, three NCAA regional appearances, six All-Americans, and 13 MLB draft picks.
