Nebraska baseball has added another arm to its future pitching depth. 

Colton Williams, a left-handed pitcher out of Millard West in Omaha, Neb., announced his verbal commitment to Nebraska baseball on Monday afternoon. The southpaw wrapped his junior season with the Wildcats in May,  making six appearances with a 1.07 ERA  and a 4-2 record. The junior recorded wins over Skutt Catholic, Omaha Central, Papillion-La Vista, and Millard North that included three shutouts.

Williams had a complete-game shutout against Omaha Central on April 17, leading Millard West to a 10-0 win at home while allowing one hit and striking out five batters. The junior also completed his final two starts of the season against Papillion-La Vista and Millard North, allowing only one earned run in the two contests while giving up two and five hits, respectively, and striking out 12 total batters in the matchups against state tournament opponents. 

Williams finished his junior season with 32.2 innings pitched, giving up 20 hits and five earned runs. He would strike out 34 batters while walking 12 in his six appearances. Williams was also a standout his sophomore season in 2025, going 6-1 in nine appearances while pitching 42.1 innings with 50 strikeouts to 16 walks, allowing 26 hits and nine earned runs. The Wildcats would finish 22-14 his sophomore season, ending the season in the Class A state tournament. 

The incoming senior is also a dual-sport athlete for the Wildcats, doubling as a receiver and defensive back for Millard West football. He recorded 25 receptions for 418 yards and three scores on offense while nabbing five interceptions and two tackles for loss during his junior season. He had a pick-six and two touchdown receptions in a Millard West win over Bellevue East.

The Omaha native remained busy over the summer, working with the Spects National MidSouth 17U team. On June 12, Prep Baseball Scouting reported Williams' performance at the PBR KC Summer Classic, crediting the Husker commit with 10 strikeouts in six innings while clocking in a fastball at 86 miles per hour. Prep Baseball Report lists Williams' highest-recorded fastball at 89.4 miles per hour, while also noting strong velo ranges on his changeup, curveball, and slider. 

Williams joins a small but growing class of 2027 Husker baseball verbal commits after Nebraska landed three regional talents in its bullpen from the 2026 class. RHP Zane Shaw (Lawrence, Kans.), RHP Drew Sullivan (Dubuque, Iowa), and RHP Colton Roemmich (West Des Moines, Iowa) all signed with Nebraska earlier this year to join the Huskers for the 2026 season. Williams is also set to join three in-state talents from the 2026 class, as Elkhorn South shortstop Brody Jindra and Creighton Prep outfielders Charlier Ziola and Cal Anthony have signed with NU. 

Nebraska baseball's 2027 class now adds its third verbal commitment of the cycle so far, as Williams joins fellow in-state pitcher Kowen Rader from Adams Central as well as shortstop Brayden Shannon from Overland Park. 

The Huskers had 22 pitchers on their 2026 roster but lost several depth pieces and key starters to the transfer portal, graduation, and the MLB Draft. Cooper Katskee, Blake Encarnacion, Carter Kutz, and Blake Sebastian all exited the program via the transfer portal, while starter Ty Horn announced his decision to leave Nebraska for the MLB Draft. Horn still has a final year of eligibility remaining if he elects to return to the Huskers. 

The cupboard does not remain bare for Nebraska's pitching options, however, as the Huskers are set to return several key pieces including J'Shawn Unger, Carson Jasa,  Gavin Blachowicz, and Tucker Timmerman. Unger was a 2026 Stopper of the Year finalist after earning second-team All-Big Ten honors with a team-high 25 relief appearances and 13 saves, going 6-1 with a 4.05 ERA. Timmerman had a team-high 25 appearances on the mound for Nebraska, going 3-1 with a 4.43 ERA and one save, while Jasa impressed as a third-team All-American and earned first-team All-Big Ten honors with 16 starts and a 10-2 record. Jasa finished 2026 with a 3.59 ERA in 87.2 innings pitched, becoming the 13th Nebraska pitcher to reach the 10-win mark in a season. 

Will Bolt's Huskers finished out a historic 2026 season going 43-17 overall, reaching the 40-2 win mark for the 20th time in program history and the second time under Bolt as head coach. Nebraska also hosted a Lincoln regional for the first time since 2008, clinching the program's third consecutive regional appearance since 2008. The Huskers are also coming off back-to-back Big Ten Tournament titles in 2024 and 2025, giving Nebraska athletic director Troy Dannen the confidence to extend Bolt through 2032. 

“Will and his staff have done an outstanding job of continuing to elevate the level of success in our baseball program,” Dannen said last month. “Making three consecutive NCAA appearances and earning the opportunity to host a regional for the first time in almost two decades reflects the culture, development, and leadership of our entire baseball staff. We are excited to extend Will and his assistant coaches as we continue building momentum and pursuing championships at Nebraska.”

Assistant coaches Rob Childress, Lance Harvell, and Mike Sirianni also inked new extensions through the 2028 season. The staff has compiled 213 wins under Bolt's seven seasons. That run has included three conference titles, three NCAA regional appearances, six All-Americans, and 11 MLB draft picks.
