After previously committing to Big Ten foe Penn State, top-100 talent Khalil Taylor ultimately chose Nebraska to add another receiving threat for the Huskers' 2027 class.
Add another talented Taylor to Nebraska football's 2027 recruitment class.
Top-100 player and four-star receiver Khalil Taylor announced his commitment to Nebraska football on Monday after a lengthy recruitment process. The Gibsonia, Pennsylvania native becomes the Huskers' 22nd commitment of the 2027 recruiting class and adds a fourth prospect for Nebraska out of the top 100 ratings. Taylor's commitment sets him as Nebraska's highest-rated receiver in the 2027 class so far, joining Millard South three-star Antayvious Ellis and Blue Springs, Mo three-star Justyn Lindsay.
“Taylor to Taylor," the receiver wrote on his commitment post to Hayes Fawcett, referencing his future connection to Nebraska quarterback commit Trae Taylor.
Khalil Taylor's Wild Recruitment Ride
The 5-11 receiver's recruitment came down to his new relationship with Nebraska coach Matt Rhule and his initial commitment to Penn State despite some late pushes from Colorado and Indiana. Taylor originally pledged to the Nittany Lions in March 2025 before reopening his recruitment in October amid Penn State's in-season losing skid. His de-commitment came days prior to former Penn State coach James Franklin's firing.
Following his new recruiting opening, Taylor received new offers from multiple Power Four programs that lasted well into the spring, totaling 30 different Division I programs that offered. The receiver would take official visits to Colorado, Indiana, Nebraska, and Penn State under new coach Matt Campbell, and would set his commitment date as the one-year anniversary of the passing of his cousin and best friend, Kevin McKenzie. Taylor eventually landed on his decision with Matt Rhule, receivers coach Daikiel Shorts, and the Huskers after sources indicated that the receiver was trending towards the Big Red in the waning moments before his announcement.
Should Taylor's commitment last until signing day, he would become the Huskers' highest-rated receiver addition since 2011. His status as a top-100 player also gives Nebraska four players listed inside most composite top-100 ratings, including four-star athlete Tory Pittman III, five-star quarterback Trae Taylor, and interior offensive lineman Jordan Agbonoma.
Taylor later told 247Sports he would be "shutting down his recruitment", adding that he fully believes in Nebraska and wishes to focus on his senior season.
Khalil Taylor By the Numbers
Taylor is a well-deserved four-star prospect and showcases his ability as a top-100 player early and often in his film. Although smaller in frame at 5-11 and 190 pounds, Taylor has been a constant force at Pine-Richland High School in Pennsylvania. Taylor has been a three-way player for the Rams, playing time at running back, receiver, and defensive back while also handling kick and punt return duties. He also booted five punts during his junior season, averaging 40 yards per punt with two downed inside of the 20-yard line.
The receiver's best attribute is his nose for the end zone, as Taylor racked up 16 receiving touchdowns on 33 receptions while averaging 17.3 yards per reception last season. Taylor found ways to score away from the offensive side of the ball as well, returning two interceptions for scores while adding six return touchdowns on special teams. Taylor finished his junior season with 24 touchdowns, averaging nearly two per contest for Pine-Richland.
Taylor's ability to score at each level and, most notably, his contributions on special teams could see the four-star having early looks at playing time during the 2027 season once he arrives on campus. Nebraska recently lost its primary kick returner, Kenneth Williams, to the transfer portal over the offseason and is expected to rely on Jacory Barney Jr. on both punt and kick return. Williams had the Huskers' first kickoff return for a touchdown since 2017 this past season, while Nebraska is still searching for its first true punt return touchdown since 2019.
Nebraska Football's Growing 2027 Recruitment Class
Nebraska has continued its strong summer in recruitment for the 2027 Class after landing 10 commitments in the month of June. The Huskers took advantage of some heavy lifting during its official visits over the past month, having all 22 of the program's current verbal commits visit during the past 40 days. Nebraska's biggest names, Trae Taylor and Tory Pittman, each committed in 2025 and remain inside of the state's borders as the five-star quarterback has been very active in his open recruitment for future prospects. Trae Taylor's presence in Nebraska helped bring in three-star receiver Tay Ellis, as the pair have joined at Omaha's Millard South High School to continue to assist with peer recruitment for the 2027 class.
Since May 21, Nebraska has landed offensive lineman KD Jones, interior offensive lineman Jordan Agbanoma, offensive tackle Timi Aliu, cornerback Bryce Williams, defensive lineman Nehemiah Ombati, cornerback Jailen Hill, linebacker Caleb Green, offensive lineman Barrett Kitrell, safety Brennan Drummond, tight end Joey Hunter, linebacker Eli Harris, defensive lineman Errol Demontagnac, edge rusher Ma'atoe Moe, and receiver Justyn Lindsay. Pittman, Taylor, Ellis, Kitrell, and offensive tackle Matt Erickson all hail from Nebraska, giving the Huskers five in-state commitments as well.
Should Nebraska retain all of its top-100 commits (Trae Taylor, Pittman, Khalil Taylor, and Agbonoma), it would be the program's most top-100 signees since 2006. The Huskers continue to work on the relationships with prospects that are currently committed to other programs, such as LSU tight end Ahmad Hudson. Hudson was a notable addition to the June 5 recruiting weekend, as he changed several of his social media profile photos to reflect his visit to Lincoln.
