Nebraska's future non-conference schedule just got a major boost.
Two of the biggest brands in college football will meet for a home-and-home series in the 2030s.
Nebraska and Notre Dame announced a new series on Wednesday. The two will play in Lincoln in 2032, before battling in South Bend in 2033.
“The series with Notre Dame is the type of matchup that college football fans circle on their calendars years in advance,” Nebraska Director of Athletics Troy Dannen said. “Our fans have a tremendous appreciation for the history of college football and iconic venues. We are excited to welcome Notre Dame and their fans to Lincoln in 2032, and I know our fans will travel to South Bend in full force in 2033.”
The games are both set for later in the year, with the Lincoln game on Oct. 30, 2032, and the South Bend contest on Oct. 29, 2033.
The Huskers and Fighting Irish have played 16 times, with NU holding an 8-7-1 advantage. The teams met 11 consecutive seasons from 1915 to 1925, leaving just five matchups in the past 100 years.
The most recent series came with a home-and-home in 2000 and 2001. The 2000 game in South Bend saw an estimated 30,000 Husker fans take over Notre Dame Stadium.
Both programs are in the top 10 in all-time victories, with Notre Dame ranking fourth with 974 victories, while Nebraska is eighth with 933. In the poll era, the schools have combined for 13 national titles, with the Fighting Irish winning eight championships and Nebraska owning five national titles.
With the two teams meeting in 2033, that means the Huskers will face two Power Four opponents in the non-conference that season. Nebraska will host Cincinnati on Sept. 10, 2033.
Nebraska has nine Power Four non-conference games slated for 2028 to 2035. Other opponents include Arizona, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State.

In future Group of Six non-conference scheduling, Nebraska will host Northern Illinois, Miami (Ohio), and Northern Iowa in 2027, UTEP and South Dakota State in 2028, Nevada in 2029, and South Dakota State in 2030.
