The Big 12 hasn't dropped its lawsuit against Sorsby as unanswered questions about his NFL eligibility and potential legal liability keep things on hold.

Once Brendan Sorsby declared for the NFL supplemental draft instead of trying to fight complex legal battles to finish up his collegiate career with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, it seemed like that saga was all but over.

However, Big 12 presidents and chancellors haven’t exactly jumped at the chance to drop the conference’s federal lawsuit that seemed to turn the tide on Sorsby’s ultimate decision, according to ESPN.

There are still unanswered questions about an NFL future for Sorsby regarding his eligibility and any potential legal liabilities for the conference regarding his self-admitted gambling addiction.

They’ve left the case active for now as the board of directors is set to meet early next week to talk about issues surrounding conference liability and exposure to that, and how Sorsby’s detailed gambling history might affect his ability to join and play in the NFL after all of this.

The NFL, for their part, still has yet to approve his application for the draft which would stand to take place later this summer.

It would be a first for the NFL since 2023, and should Sorsby be selected, that would mark the first time a player was taken in the supplemental draft since the Arizona Cardinals took safety Jalen Thompson in 2019.

The Big 12 filed a federal suit last Monday in the Northern District of Texas, seeking authority to potentially discipline Sorsby under conference bylaws after being threated against said action earlier that week by a Texas General Attorney.
