The star quarterback faces a pivotal June legal battle following the governing body's refusal to grant future eligibility.

The high-profile battle between Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Brendan Sorsby and the NCAA continues with the entity denying Sorsby's 2026 reinstatement request.

The June 1 court date for Sorsby's pending lawsuit against the NCAA is now even more pressing following the decision, as he hopes to fight for another year of eligibility. While Sorsby continues to pursue his injunction, Texas Tech plans to appeal the NCAA's decision.

Both Sorsby and the Red Raiders are fighting to keep the quarterback on the collegiate field for the 2026 season.

For more on the impact of Sorsby's ongoing situation and what it could mean for the Texas Tech quarterback position, Red Raider Roundtable writer Timothy Hamm has a detailed look at the situation here.

Sorsby has been in the public eye for some time during college football's offseason, not just because of his attempt to get reinstated in time to play another season of college ball, but because of his admission to sports gambling and rehabilitation efforts.

The quarterback admitted to betting on games, but noted specifically that he had not done so on games in which he played, dating back his time at Indiana. After the admission, he entered a 35-day rehab program for gambling addiction.

He has now completed that program and said, in a statement shared after the NCAA denied his request for eligibility, that he will continue to utilize the recourses of Texas Tech's Center for Students in Addiction Recovery if given a chance to continue his playing days.

The quarterback was one of the highest-touted players to enter the transfer portal following the 2025 season. He committed to the Red Raiders in January after transferring from Cincinnati, where he played last year.

Following an investigation into his gambling past, the NCAA disciplined Sorsby by ruling him ineligible for the upcoming season, which is what led to the quarterback's lawsuit being filed with the Lubbock County District Court.

The upcoming court date on June 1 should provide the next update for the ongoing saga.
