Sherrone Moore Sentenced After Dramatic Fall From Michigan cover image

Former Michigan Wolverines' Sherrone Moore's sentencing marks a major fall from grace for the ex head coach.

It’s been a little more than four months since Sherrone Moore was the head coach of top Big Ten program Michigan Wolverines and was on his way to coaching them in a bowl game. He was earning over $5 million a year in his role. This past Tuesday, Moore appeared in front of a judge for sentencing in one of the most massive falls from grace in college football history. Moore was sentenced to 18 months probation and was fined a little over $1k but will avoid jail time for the incident that occurred in the apartment of a female staff member whom he was having an inappropriate relationship with. He is also barred from contact with that staff member, Paige Shiver, from possessing firearms, and from using drugs/alcohol. He also must continue counseling in line with his probation.

District Court Judge Cedric Simpson didn’t believe that the entirety of the situation warranted incarceration but warned of having no problem with sending them there should he violate the terms of his probation. The sentencing comes a month after Moore pleaded no contest to trespassing and malicious use of a telecommunications device involving a domestic relationship, which he did to drop the felony charges. Shiver did not attend the hearing but released a statement saying that the sentence isn’t reflective of the harm caused by him.

"He broke into my apartment, crying, yelling, enraged, and came at me with knives," Shiver said. "I was threatened, and I feared for my life."

Here is the full story from Michigan Roundtable writer Dakota Allen on the massive fall from grace for the disgruntled former head coach.

Moore was ultimately fired on Dec. 10 last year after Shiver came forward to Michigan officials about their relationship. He took the plea deal last month to drop the stalking felony charge. The program will now move forward with former Utah coach Kyle Whittingham as the university continues to review the culture and practices of their athletic department.
