Success in college football is incredibly fleeting nowadays, with nearly every roster seeing massive turnover due to NIL and the transfer portal. For fans of well-funded programs, it’s an exciting time of the year. For fans of programs that are behind the times, it’s a mass exodus that’s tough to watch. While the portal is officially open, the College Football Playoff is still well underway heading to the CFP semifinals. Those four teams have to split recruiting efforts with trying to win a national title.
For the No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers, who will face off against the No. 5 Oregon Ducks in the Peach Bowl, they’ll now reportedly return to a major NIL gift from alum Mark Cuban. The Dallas Mavericks owner graduated from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana in 1981. He is now looking to help the success of the football program that he never saw in his time there continue on under coach Curt Cignetti. It is reported that Cuban is donating an increased amount to the Hoosiers to help them reload in the portal with name, image, and likeness deals.
Here is the full story from Hoosiers Roundtable writer Tom Brew on the major contribution.
Indiana became the only team to ever win its first game in the College Football Playoff, and as they look to reach the national championship, they can enjoy knowing that funds are waiting for them at home to recruit using the pitch of success on the field with what they can contribute to players’ lives off of it with NIL.
