Trimble ignites UNC's comeback win over Ohio State, hitting clutch shots and forcing turnovers after a broken forearm layoff.

Seth Trimble Shined When It Mattered Most In North Carolina's Win Over Ohio State.

After missing six weeks with a broken forearm, Seth Trimble immediately made up for lost time in his return to the lineup on Saturday.

The senior compiled 17 points, which was more than the combined output of UNC's four other guards (11), off of three made triples. But his most important contributions during the Tar Heels' 71-70 win over Ohio State in the CBS Sports Classic came during crunch time.

The Buckeyes (8-3) erased an 11-point deficit to take the lead 70-67 with 48 seconds remaining. The were on a 17-3 run and it seemed like the tide had completely turned in Atlanta.

Trimble had different ideas, though.

First, he hit a driving lay-up with 34 seconds left on the game clock, which meant that the Tar Heels (11-1) didn't have to foul on the ensuing possession. UNC elected to apply back-court pressure — with Trimble defending the catch on the inbounds play — and it led to a turnover.

Hubert Davis called timeout with 18 ticks to go. Carolina now had the ball trailing by one point.

Once again, the ball was placed in Trimble's hands. Once again, the team's senior leader came through. But the play wasn't executed as gracefully as it was written up.

When Trimble drove towards the paint, he started to stumble. However, as he was falling towards the court, he let go of a pass that snugly found Henri Veesaar, who promptly flushed down a go-ahead dunk with seven seconds remaining.

While Veesaar finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds, he was one-upped by the theatrics of his fellow front-court mate Caleb Wilson. In addition to booking game-highs in points (20) and rebounds (15), Wilson turned away a last-second shot — on a Buckeye put-back attempt — to secure the Tar Heel victory.

But the primary story was Trimble's return. In order to make room for him in the starting lineup, Davis chose to sit small forward Jarin Stevenson rather than Luka Bogavac or Kyan Evans. But Stevenson still managed to outplay Bogovac and Evans, which is why he booked 10 minutes than each guy and was given late-game playing time, too.

UNC will close its non-conference schedule with East Carolina on Monday night. Tip-off from the Smith Center is set for 8 p.m.
