After a slow five minutes to open against the Seminoles, it was Caleb Wilson that got the party started and the Tar Heels followed his lead. While Wilson had 26 points, Seth Trimble finished with 20 and Kyan Evans finally found his three point stroke with 15 points.
That's the type of contagious affect Caleb Wilson can have on this group.
There's a few things to keep an eye on in this one for Carolina. First, it's whether or not Kyan Evans can build on what he did against Florida State. It was the first game where he really showed a true confidence in his three point stroke, going 5 of 12. Even after some of his misses, he kept his finger on the trigger.
Hubert Davis acknowledged this after the game, explaining that he wants him to keep that confidence in his shot.
The other storyline to follow is Luka Bogavac. Luke did not score against the Seminoles. The last four games have been wildly inconsistent for him putting up 0, 15, and back to back 2 point performances in that stretch.
He's clearly shown and ability to score and let it fly from three, he just has not found the consistency to make him a legit threat just yet.
On the SMU side of things, they will be a sneaky test for the Tar Heels. For starters, SMU plays at a high pace with Boopie Miller sticking around for another year with the Mustangs. To further take a look at this pace they play with, SMU leads the ACC in fast-break points with 16.5 per game. Because of that pace, the Mustangs have been able to tally 91.1 points per contest and do that with a very effective 49.9 percent shooting from the field.
The good news on the defensive side of things for the Tar Heels is that they manage to hold their opponents to 5.9 fast break points per game.
SMU has a very effective starting five with all of them averaging double digits.
This game will be at 2:15pm ET and broadcast on The CW Network.
