Bill Belichick certainly had his work cut out for him entering the transfer portal, especially after his North Carolina Tar Heels went just 4-8 in his debut campaign this season.
North Carolina clearly had an abundance of holes up and down the roster, and because it was patently obvious that the Tar Heels were still a long way away from being genuinely competitive, it made it inherently difficult to lure top players in the portal.
As a result, Belichick had to get creative, and he has done that thus far to an extent. North Carolina has secured commitments from 15 transfers, although UNC has yet to land a single player above a three-star rating.
The Tar Heels rank 51st in On 3's transfer portal rankings, which isn't great. They also rank just 12th in the ACC, which is even less impressive.
However, Belichick has managed to nab some interesting pieces, and perhaps none are more intriguing than former Colorado State tight end Jaxxon Warren.
What makes Warren such a compelling prospect?
Well, let's start with the fact that the incoming redshirt junior stands 6-foot-8, which is a unique height typically reserved for offensive tackles. And even then, it's still a rarity.

The Flower Mound, Tx. native played just two games at Colorado State this year as a result of a season-ending leg injury, but during his time on the field, he logged seven catches for 95 yards and a touchdown.
Warren actually began his collegiate career at Navarro Junior College in 2023, when he posted 17 grabs for 308 yards and a pair of scores. He then proceeded to transfer to Colorado State, where he redshirted in 2024 as a result of surgeries on both shoulders.
The former three-star recruit was the third-ranked tight end prospect in the country once he joined the Rams in 2024, so he has been on the radar for quite some time.
That being said, it seems like not enough people are talking about this addition for Belichick.
Warren could ultimately comprise a reliable weapon for new quarterback Billy Edwards, who just transferred to UNC from Wisconsin.
It would not be the least bit surprising if Warren has a breakout campaign in 2026 and potentially even establishes himself as a legitimate NFL prospect due to his blend of size and athleticism.
This was a major win for Belichick and North Carolina, but not enough people are talking about it.
