North Carolina was set for another week of action, but the bigger focus continues to be on what happens outside the facility.

For a North Carolina team that has proven over the past two seasons that it can be decent at times, it’s unfortunate that we continue to see other headlines take over. I’d even go so far as to say this is part of why North Carolina has struggled a bit over the past season: there are moments when it can be very decent and others when it’s clearly struggling, and there seem to be some outside factors.

Regardless, with Bill Belichick as the head coach, it doesn’t look like that’s going to change anytime in the near future. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that North Carolina is going to have to deal with a lot more drama before things get right.

Speaking to reporters, especially over the past couple of weeks, there’s been one constant in a lot of what Belichick has had to say. I actually respect what he’s saying instead of making it seem like it’s not a big deal.

The former New England Patriots head coach and multi-time Super Bowl champion understands that he needs to be a lot better for his guys, and that includes hiring the right people, allowing things to happen in the facility and much more.

“My expectations are to do the best I can for the team every day and get our team to perform well, coaching staff and players,” Belichick told reporters, per Chapel Boro.

“That’ll never change. It’s a day-to-day process. Today, we’re in our process of game planning for this game Saturday. Tomorrow we’ll go out and practice. We’ll practice the next day on third down and two-minute [drills]. We’ll practice the next day on red area and goal line. We’ll review everything and we’ll go out and play on Saturday. We do what we do.”

Some of this might sound like small stuff, but in the end, it all adds up. It’s not easy having to constantly hear about things as a college football player, especially when these guys already feel the pressure of competing at such a big university for a storied head coach.

As frustrating as these moments can be for Belichick and the team, however, I think a lot of the guys have actually done a pretty good job with it.
