We saw some shocking news come out of Chapel Hill on Monday, as five-star and number one point guard in the country, Dylan Mingo, has decided to reopen his recruitment.

There were conflicting reports about what happened, but Mingo has decided to reopen his recruiting process and won't be coming to North Carolina for now.

There's a lot we can look at here, but some of the latest reports suggest that new head coach Michael Malone told Mingo to reopen his recruitment.

That could be due to Malone wanting a different type of player, wanting to allocate NIL funds elsewhere, or any other reason under the sun. Regardless, there seems to be a good feel about where he could land in this recruiting process.

“Mingo committed to the Tar Heels on February 17th while Hubert Davis was still with the program. Once he left, it was noticed by many that Mingo had still not signed a National Letter of Intent. Michael Malone and his staff met with him over the last few days, and given the wording of both the reports from Tar Heels 247 and Inside Carolina, it sounds like Malone himself decided not to continue with Mingo.

“There may be some more information that comes out at a later time regarding this decision, but for now, we will not speculate as to why the decision was made. What we do know is that Dylan Mingo will likely turn to Washington or Baylor as far as his next destination goes, but given the fluidity of college basketball, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he went somewhere else entirely,” Brandon Anderson of SB Nation wrote.

As is already known, Mingo has an older brother, Kayden Mingo, who recently transferred out of Penn State. There's a chance that the Mingo brothers want to play together, so perhaps they could both end up at a school like Washington or Baylor. Penn State seems to be completely out of the mix right now, though we've seen a lot crazier happen in this era of college basketball.
