North Carolina’s defensive issues reached a breaking point after its 95-90 loss to Stanford, a result that was just as embarrassing as any loss that UNC has dealt with in recent years.

Giving up 95 points, especially with all the talk about what UNC has done defensively, there’s no way anyone inside the building should be in the least bit OK.

From the sound of things, certain players aren’t happy at all.

After the loss, Henri Veesaar didn’t sugarcoat where things stand. Instead, he pointed directly at the areas that continue to hurt North Carolina and challenged his team to figure this thing out as soon as possible.

“Just go back, learn from this game, watch film on this game, and then concentrate on the next opponent and do whatever we can do to have the best defensive game there and just really change our identity as a team and show how physical we can be and how good we can be defensively, because I think that’s what coaches take pride in, and we’re not doing our job,” he said…” per On3.

“Personally I think everybody is pissed off because we know that those are controllables that are in our control. So I think just clearing up those little things… one on one, just taking pride in your matchup, not letting a guy score on you, and just being proud to wear this uniform and do what we can do to win the game.

At this point, it isn’t just one bad night or one opponent getting hot.

This has become an issue, and Stanford simply exposed it in a way that couldn’t be ignored. No matter how bad this offense is, there’s never a reason for Stanford to score 95 points.

As I’ve said recently, the one good part for North Carolina is that the season still has plenty of

UNC will have some winnable games over the next few days, with Cal and Notre Dame on the schedule. As long as the defense can get going, the Tar Heels should be fine. If not, they shouldn’t expect to come away with a win.
