The North Carolina Tar Heels remain in the running for this top-ranked running back in the 2027 recruiting class.

As the excitement continues to grow before the North Carolina Tar Heels’ spring practices, head coach Bill Belichick and his coaching staff are beginning to make huge moves within the 2027 recruiting cycle.

So far this offseason, the Tar Heels have landed a total of three commits in the upcoming recruiting class, with four-star athlete Marquis Bryant being the highest-rated prospect in the bunch. In addition to Bryant, Belichick also scored big on two three-star commits in safety Charles Roberts and athlete Skylar Robinson.

However, this has only been the beginning of what could be a historic class for North Carolina.

According to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett on Friday afternoon, 2027 four-star running back Isaiah Rogers has announced his top eight schools, with the Tar Heels being included in the mix.

Rogers’ Recruitment Journey

Rogers, coming out of Springfield, MA, is easily one of the top running back recruits within the 2027 recruiting cycle. The highly-rated prospect is currently the No. 2-ranked prospect in the state of Massachusetts and the No. 7-ranked running back in the class, per 247Sports’ Composite.

After playing in a total of four games throughout his first two years at Springfield Central High School, Rogers would eventually become the lead back during junior year with the Golden Eagles. Last year, he would finish the season with 986 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, while averaging 7.8 yards per carry. Rogers also managed to have six games with 100 or more rushing yards, demonstrating his elite burst with the ball in his hands.

On top of his prolific rushing profile, Rogers also dominated through the air, recording 32 catches for 373 yards and three touchdowns. His ability to be a force in both the run and pass game will allow him to excel at the college level, as he projects to be a “jack-of-all-trades” playmaker.

Unfortunately for Belichick and the rest of the coaching staff, North Carolina will have to compete with multiple incredible programs for Rogers, including the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Georgia Bulldogs. Both teams have a proven track record of producing NFL-caliber running backs and are consistent title contenders every season.
