Henri Veesaar on the Boston Celtics could be fun to watch.

Could the Boston Celtics select North Carolina center Henri Veesaar in the 2026 NBA Draft?

It's possible, according to The Athletic

"Veesaar is projecting like he prefers to stay in the 2026 draft, and he’d be a pretty excellent fit as a complement for Neemias Queta with the Celtics. At 7-foot, Veesaar moves very well for his size and also has a high-end skill set that involves both passing (as he averaged 2.1 assists per game) and shooting from distance, as he hit 42.6 percent of his three-point attempts per game. For a Celtics organization that really values shooting from the center position — especially as a counter to Queta — Veesaar would tick a lot of boxes as a strong developmental big man who could play minutes as soon as he gets a bit stronger and tougher on the interior."

For UNC in 2025, Veesaar averaged 17.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 60.8% from the field, 42.6% from beyond the arc and 61.5% from the free-throw line.

Veesaar appeared in 97 games with North Carolina. He finished his college career with averages of 9.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest.

UNC went 24-9 in 2025. Veesaar and Co. lost to VCU in the first round of the NCAA tournament, a defeat that cost Hubert Davis his job.

Former NBA coach Michael Malone is the new coach at North Carolina.

"Carolina is one of the most historic programs in college basketball, and I am honored to be the head coach of the Tar Heels," Malone said. "It is humbling to follow so many legends in Chapel Hill. I know from the many Tar Heels in the NBA how special the Carolina Basketball Family is, and I will do everything I can to continue UNC's championship legacy while preparing our players for professional careers and life after basketball."

Malone won't get to coach Veesaar or Caleb Wilson next season, as both guys will be in the NBA.

But North Carolina is still confident Malone will succeed.

“Michael was the first coach we engaged with as part of the search process because of his reputation as a selfless teacher and innovator who brings an incredible ability to connect with players and get the absolute best out of those he mentors,’’ said Executive Associate Athletic Director Steve Newmark, who will become Carolina’s director of athletics on July 1. “He is a brilliant coach who will deliver a modern and disciplined approach to leading our men’s basketball program, which is critical in the current landscape of college athletics. Carolina basketball is unique and special – and we have hired a leader well-suited to continuing our championship tradition.”
