North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick will reportedly not be a first-ballot Hall of Fame coach in the NFL.

North Carolina's Bill Belichick Kept Out of NFL's Hall of Fame

Before being hired by North Carolina in 2024, Bill Belichick went 302-165 as a head coach in the NFL.

He won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and made nine Super Bowl appearances.

Belichick's final season with the Patriots came in 2023. He finished with a 4-13 record, the second season in a row he did not reach the playoffs.

Since Belichick has been out of the league for two years, he was eligible to be nominated for the Hall of Fame in 2026.

Despite being one of the winningest coaches in the league, Belichick will have to wait for the prestigious honor.

Per  Don Van Natta Jr. And Seth Wickersham of ESPN, at least 10 voters kept Belichick out of the Hall of Fame in 2026. He will not be a first-ballot HOF coach, needing 80 percent of the committee's vote.

"In voting earlier this month, Belichick fell short of the 40 out of 50 votes needed for induction to the Pro Football Hall of Fame during his first year of eligibility, four sources with firsthand knowledge of the outcome told ESPN.

"Belichick received a call from a Hall representative last Friday afternoon with the news that he won't be inducted into the Hall in Canton, Ohio, this summer."

Belichick was reportedly "puzzled" by the committee's vote. He questioned why winning six Super Bowls as head coach and two more as a defensive coordinator wasn't enough to become a first-ballot Hall of Fame induction.

Maybe the 20 percent of the committee was stuck looking at Belichick's record with the Cleveland Browns, when he finished with a 36-44 record and only one playoff appearance in six seasons.

There's no other argument than to say Belichick was snubbed. He's won more Super Bowls, conference championships and playoff games than any other head coach.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes couldn't believe the news.

"Insane… don’t even understand how this could be possible," Mahomes posted on X.

Outside of New England, Belichick doesn't have a winning record as a head coach. He went 4-8 during his first season with the Tar Heels.

However, Belichick's record in college football shouldn't have any determination for the committee's vote.
