Dominant individual efforts from Christo Kelly and Greg Smith provide a silver lining for the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Offensive lineman Christo Kelly and defensive back Greg Smith earned national honors courtesy of Pro Football Focus in Week 3.

The North Carolina Tar Heels may have fallen to Clemson in a game many argue they should've won, but a lengthy weather delay saw their two-point lead quickly turn into an eight-point defeat.

Head coach Bill Belichick's perfect season was spoiled, and now this team is 2-1 heading into a marquee matchup against No. 3 Notre Dame on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Thankfully, the Tar Heels are able to enjoy this week off, and they'll hopefully come back better than ever, hungry for a massive upset over what will likely still be an undefeated Fighting Irish squad.

Kelly named to PFF ACC Team of the Week

Wisconsin transfer quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. needs all the help he can get up front, especially since he's coming off a season-ending injury from a year ago.

Kelly is a senior lineman who stands 6-foot-4, 310-pounds, and he's done just that for Edwards.

The Tar Heels quarterback may not use his legs much, but Kelly is doing everything in his power to give Edwards a clean pocket to work with.

His efforts were honored by PFF in Week 3 as he was named to the conference's offensive players of the week.

The other offensive lineman to join Kelly with these honors include: California's Frederick Williams III, Virginia Tech's Layth Ghannam, Georgia Tech's Joseph Ionata, and Miami's Matthew McCoy.

Smith made the National Team of the Week

Coming off a week where he had a career high seven tackles, Smith was named to PFF's National Team of the Week, in addition to earning conference honors.

Smith was graded at 90.1 according to PFF, and that was good enough to put him alongside the best of the best in the defensive national team.

He appeared in the safety spot for the conference honors alongside Syracuse's Davien Kerr, but then he was named to the flex spot as Penn State's Marcus Neal Jr. and Wisconsin's Matthew Jung were the national team's safeties of the week.

Regardless, these are huge honors for both Kelly and Smith, and they prove that UNC isn't looking to mess around this season.

Their schedule eases up after the Fighting Irish game, and it's important to note that the only other ranked opponents they're scheduled to play (No. 6 Miami and No. 16 Louisville) will both come to Kenan Stadium.
