TNT Sports Hires Former UNC Head Coach as Studio and Game Analyst

The former ACC Coach of the Year returns to the airwaves, bringing his knowledge to TNT Sports for Big East and Big 12 coverage.

Former North Carolina men's basketball coach Hubert Davis has found a new home ahead of the 2026-27 season.

According to On3's Nick Schultz, Davis has been hired by TNT Sports as a college basketball studio and game analyst for the upcoming season.

This announcement comes nearly one week before the Tar Heels' first game on Monday, Nov. 2, when they welcome Western Carolina.

Obviously, this is now a team led by Michael Malone, so it'll be interesting to see how the post-Davis era goes for UNC.

During his time with the Tar Heels, Davis was named the 2024 ACC Coach of the Year, and that came two years after he led this team to the National Championship in 2022 when they blew a 15-point halftime lead to Kansas.

Davis was promoted to head coach in 2021 after longtime coach Roy Davis announced his retirement.

UNC fans can watch Davis on TNT

UNC fans won't have a chance to see Davis on the call much for Tar Heels games, as Schultz noted that he will "primarily cover" action in the Big East and Big 12.

Television rights have a lot to do with that, as it's not often a Tar Heels game is even aired on TBS or TNT, unless it's during the NCAA Tournament.

Once that time comes around, things could get interesting, but for now, Davis has his hands full with a pair of strong conferences.

Remember, he worked at ESPN from 2007-12 as an analyst before he joined Davis as an assistant coach.

Davis was the No. 20 overall pick back in 1992 and played in the NBA through the 2004 season.

UNC's season is rapidly approaching

Following an overtime thriller against Charlotte, UNC has officially wrapped up its exhibition schedule and now can focus on the regular season.

Malone comes to the program as a 2023 NBA Champion, but as everyone has pointed out before, college basketball is an entirely different beast.

This will be the first time he's coaching at the college level since 2001, but it's safe to say quite a bit has changed since that point.

UNC may not be ranked going into his first year with the program, but they still received a few AP votes, and that's all that matters.

Malone knows that it's go time for a Tar Heels team that was bounced in the first round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago.

Fans are hungry not just for another National Championship, but to rebuild the dynasty this team once was known for.
