The North Carolina Tar Heels went just 4-8 in Bill Belichick's inaugural campaign, which has many wondering if the NFL legend is cut out for the college game.
But in all fairness, Belichick hasn't had much of a chance to develop anything at Chapel Hill.
The 73-year-old took the head-coaching job last December and had to hit the ground running in an area in which he had no experience, so as I have said all year long, he deserves some grace.
And you can already see that Belichick may be getting comfortable in his new digs.
North Carolina has put together a top-20 recruiting class for 2026, and apparently, Belichick is making a great impression on the prospects.
Take 2027 safety Chuck Roberts, for example, who recently chose to commit to UNC and revealed just how much influence Belichick had on his early decision.
“Coach Belichick is one of the best,” Roberts said, via Chad Simmons of Rivals. “I don’t even have to say much about him. He’s one of the best to ever do it. He’s had so much success, and he and his staff can make me so much better. I believe in those coaches. I believe they can help me become a first-round draft pick.”

“North Carolina got on me as soon as coach Belichick got there,” Roberts added. “They offered me right away and they’ve been showing me love almost every day. I’ve built great relationships with the people there, the coaches are great, and when I visited for the Stanford game, they made me feel at home.”
There is no question that the feeling around Tar Heels football has already changed since the season ended, as it is becoming very clear that Belichick is being taken very seriously on the recruiting trail.
Some wondered if Belichick's newfound public persona could ultimately have an effect on how he is viewed by prospective recruits, but clearly, it has not been an issue.
North Carolina will also likely be very active in the transfer portal, which officially opens on Jan. 2 and runs through Jan. 16.
