We'll see how that looks after averaging fewer than one assist per game last year.

North Carolina will have one of the most interesting guard rooms in college basketball next season with Matt Able and Terrence Brown.

There's definitely a feeling that this North Carolina team might not be great, but I believe it's going to be an above-average team, as I've said many times now.

I'm looking at guys like Able and Brown coming in and making a major impact, something they've already done at other stops in college basketball. Able impressed as a freshman at North Carolina State, while Brown stood out at Fairleigh Dickinson before transferring to the University of Utah.

Regarding Able, some people worried he would leave college and enter the NBA. He later withdrew from the NBA draft, but he learned a lot throughout the process. Able wasn't ready to play in the NBA yet, so returning to college for a second year seems like the right idea.

When speaking to reporters recently about what he learned throughout that process, though, he stated that he was able to show his playmaking, something that wasn't necessarily on display at NC State.

Able averaged 0.9 assists, and while there are other ways to playmake rather than assist numbers, that's a pretty below-average mark for a guard.

“When I played in the combine, they didn’t know I could playmake as good as I did just because of my role last year,” Able said, per On3. “So I think that was a big thing and they were happy to see that.”

“(Showcasing my playmaking) means a lot of different things,” Able said Friday. “Depending on the situation and the matchup, certain teams are going to play different coverages, and that will have me playing a different role. So I think it’s a lot of different things: ball screens, bringing it up, pushing in transition.”

If Able is willing to be more of a playmaker for North Carolina this year, it should find itself in one of the better positions in all of college basketball.

UNC has multiple guys who can make plays as passers and open up things for others, including Brown, Able, and Neoklis Avdalas.
