Towering 6-foot-7 QB Recruit Doesn't Hold Back on North Carolina Tar Heels cover image

A top quarterback recruit has made his feelings on the North Carolina Tar Heels very clear.

The North Carolina Tar Heels have not quite figured out their quarterback situation just yet.

Last year, North Carolina netted Gio Lopez in the transfer portal, but the former South Alabama star struggled throughout 2025 before ultimately departing Chapel Hill via the portal this winter.

Bill Belichick then dipped into the transfer portal again this offseason to land his starting quarterback for 2026, securing a commitment from ex-Maryland and Wisconsin signal-caller Billy Edwards.

Lopez wasn't an overly exciting option last year, and the same can be said for Edwards this time around. To make matters worse, the Tar Heels lost four-star quarterback Bryce Baker — who was about to enter his redshirt freshman season — to the transfer portal last month.

Belichick is still getting his feet wet when it comes to establishing consistency under center, and he did bag four-star 2026 signal-caller Travis Burgess on the recruiting cycle. So that was good.

And now, UNC appears to be zeroing in on yet another quarterback target, this time for the class of 2027: Davin Davidson.

North Carolina made an offer to Davidson late last month, and recently, the three-star prospect raved about the Tar Heels while speaking to Steve Wiltfong of On 3.

“I think their academics and athletic programs are top notch,” Davidson told Wiltfong. “I think Coach [Belichick] and the staff he’s built is definitely on the upswing. I think they are a very advanced staff and pride themselves in getting kids to the next level.”

Davidson is the 31st-ranked quarterback in his class, via 247 Sports' composite rankings. But what makes him so unique is that he stands a towering 6-foot-7.

While Davidson isn't an elite dual threat, he does have some mobility to make plays on the run, and he has very impressive arm talent.

The Sarasota, Fl. product has received offers from 26 different schools, including Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Iowa and Miami. So to say that UNC is facing some tough competition for Davidson's services would be putting it lightly.

There is no question that Davidson is one of the most intriguing quarterback prospects in his recruiting class due to his sheer size alone. We'll see if North Carolina is able to eventually land him.
