When North Carolina decided to hire Bill Belichick as its next head coach, a lot of the talk really didn't seem to be about football. Unfortunately for North Carolina, some of that was self-inflicted, as we all know, with Belichick and his young girlfriend.

At the end of the day, I really don't care what he does off the field as long as he continues to avoid major mistakes and helps this team win football games. At the end of the day, his job is to coach football, and no matter what fans want to say about that, many would be excited if he just finds ways to win at a very high level.

However, last season definitely brought some challenges because of all the changes. The hope is that now, with a full offseason under his belt, things are going to be much different. According to North Carolina's best player, Jordan Shipp, it sounds like that's the case. He recently spoke with On3 and had a lot of good things to say about what's going on this spring.

"I feel like spring was good," Shipp said, per On3. "I feel like we're lightyears ahead of where we were last year. I feel like with a lot of people coming back, [offensive coordinator] Bobby Petrino adding on top of that, of course, the defense doing what they do. Like I said a lot of times in last year's press conferences, I feel like our defense is always going to be really good."

"You have [head] coach [Bill] Belichick, you have both Belichicks on that side, things are going to happen," Shipp continued. "Great things are going to happen. They're going to put the [players] in a position to be successful. I feel the same way about Coach [Bobby] Petrino. I'm just excited to get back out there with the boys."

Carolina's talent isn't exactly what I'm worried about, but I'm a bit worried about some of the things that happen on and off the field in terms of drama and unnecessary factors that really nobody wants to deal with.

Unfortunately, that's just part of the game nowadays, though it's promising to hear that North Carolina is trying to put some of that behind itself and is more focused on winning at a high level.
