It's an exciting time at North Carolina right now, and the reason for that is due to the great history that the Tar Heels have built. Whether that be winning championships, producing NBA players, or producing college legends, North Carolina really has it all.
The program is a blue blood for a reason, and guys like Tyler Hansbrough are a big reason why.
Hansbrough, who's one of the best players in college basketball history, is one of the most decorated players in North Carolina history. He's still loved by the fan base and is still heavily involved with the program. He recently spoke about some things, including recent North Carolina decisions, what he wants to be remembered as, and much more.
When speaking about what he wants to be remembered as, it didn't sound like he was too worried about how people viewed him as a great, but more so that he worked very hard and wants others to recognize that if they work as hard as he did, anything can happen.
“I’d like for them to think that I earned everything,” Hansbrough said, per the News & Observer. “I was an unbelievably hard worker. It’s something that came from my hometown of Poplar Bluff. We used to have a lot of practices early in the morning… we all worked really hard and earned everything. And I think that’s something that hopefully people can take away from my name being in the Hall of Fame.”
More importantly, he had a lot of good to say about new head coach Michael Malone. He admitted that, just like fans and everyone else, he was shocked, but he loved the move and is excited to see what he brings to the organization.
“I’m really excited,” Hansbrough said. “I’ve said this from the beginning — kind of surprised we got him. I think he was a little shocking to a lot of people on the outside, but once you look a little deeper, I just don’t think we could have a better candidate. I really like what he does and what he brings.”
Hansbrough might not realize it fully, but him doing what he did at North Carolina is certainly a reason why the Tar Heels are able to get coaches like Malone.
