According to the latest reports on social media, Penn State recently went to visit Dylan Mingo out in Long Island in its search for one of the top players in the country.
It remains uncertain when Mingo is going to make his decision, but it sounds like North Carolina is still in the mix, at the very least. If Mingo believes that Penn State is the place for him, however, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him make that decision over the next few days.
In-home visits are important, and with his brother on Penn State’s roster, it feels like he needs to make a decision sooner rather than later.
247Sports had the latest on the five-star prospect, who is viewed as one of the top 10 players in the 2026 high school class, suggesting that it’s still unclear when he’s going to find his home.
“Five-star Glen Head (N.Y.) Long Island Lutheran guard Dylan Mingo, the younger brother of Penn State freshman guard Kayden Mingo, remains available for the taking in early December. Mingo, the No. 6 overall recruit in the nation according to 247Sports, is down to four schools – Baylor, North Carolina, Penn State and Washington. It is not yet clear when exactly Mingo will come to a final decision, but those are the four programs he is focusing on down the stretch,” Tyler Calvaruso wrote.
It’s a bit strange that Mingo hasn’t made his decision yet. If I were Mingo, I’d go to North Carolina all day, but I understand I’m not in his position, and I don’t have a brother on the other team, so it’s easier to say what I’d do than for him to actually do it.
From his perspective, though, North Carolina is one of the marquee programs in college basketball.
I understand the appeal of going to a school like Penn State. It’s fun, in the Big Ten, and a good academic school.
However, North Carolina is better at basketball, a great academic school, and it isn’t as cold as being in the mountains of State College throughout the winter. Nonetheless, it sounds like North Carolina still has some work to do in its pursuit, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens.
