The North Carolina Tar Heels are beginning to find their groove with a few games left in the regular season, as head coach Hubert Davis’ squad was able to defeat the Louisville Cardinals, 77-74.
Monday night’s victory now puts the Tar Heels in a prime position for the rest of the regular season, as North Carolina has a 22-6 record with three games left. Unfortunately for the program, star forward Caleb Wilson was not active for the team’s most recent win, as he continues to heal from a hand injury.
This has led to Davis heavily relying on center Henri Veesaar, who recorded 19 points and three blocks against the Syracuse Orangemen last week. However, Veesaar was not the main catalyst on offense against the No. 24-ranked Cardinals, as guard Seth Trimble finished with career-high numbers on Monday.
The senior playmaker ended the contest with an impressive 30 points, along with four rebounds and four assists. Trimble was highly efficient from the field and at the free-throw line, finishing the strong performance shooting 11-16 from the field and 7-11 at the stripes.
Bob Donnan-Imagn ImagesWhile Trimble may not receive the recognition at the national level that Wilson and Veesaar do, the veteran guard has been one of the most underrated players in college basketball this season.
In his 19 games played with the program this season, the Menomonee Falls, WI native is averaging 14.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game while also shooting 47.6 percent from the field. Trimble also played a key role in the team’s win against Syracuse alongside Veesaar, finishing the contest with 13 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
As Wilson’s availability continues to linger with the NCAA Tournament on the horizon, Trimble will continue to be a key playmaker on both offense and defense for the Tar Heels. The prolific guard has the third-most points per game this year behind Wilson and Veesaar, while also ranking fourth in rebounds per game.
Look for both Trimble and Veesaar to fill the void on offense until Wilson’s return to the court.
