UNC's Seth Trimble enters the transfer portal with a "Do Not Contact" tag, seeking a fifth year of eligibility despite no remaining eligibility.

UNC: Seth Trimble Makes Decision on Basketball Future

North Carolina basketball has had a rocky past few days in the news.

On Sunday, the Tar Heels received news from assistant coach Kim English that he would be backing out of his job with the program. English was expected to be a crucial help for new head coach Michael Malone.

On Monday, UNC received news on Seth Trimble and his potential future for the 2026-27 season.

Per On3, Trimble is hitting the transfer portal with a "Do Not Contact" tag. He has no eligibility remaining but is seeking one more year in college basketball.

Trimble averaged 14.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game during the 2025-26 campaign.

College basketball fans reacted on social media to the news that Trimble was entering the portal.

"Smart “just in case” option. Surprised the portal hasn’t been flooded while awaiting the 5th year option," wrote a fan.

"For you dummy’s he has to go into the portal to be eligible if the NCAA passes the 5th year of eligibility. The only school he’s going to is UNC!!!" believes a fan.

"Do not contact means hes clearly trying to return to UNC. People are dumb," posted another.

"The “Do Not Contact” tag with no eligibility left is wild, feels like a door closing on college hoops, but the next chapter already loading for him," wrote a fan. "Seth Trimble moving like the decision is already made behind the scenes."

"Well, no one expected this news this afternoon!" posted another. "With no current eligibility to work with, Seth Trimble has made a business-savvy move to keep his options open."

"Love Seth, but it's time to move on. Also 5th year of eligibility is beyond stupid," believes a fan.

Trimble is hoping for an NCAA rule change that would grant players five years of eligibility. There is a possibility that he could receive a waiver for a fifth year.

With that being said, it's more likely than not that his time with the Tar Heels is over. He was a solid piece on a team that fell short in the NCAA Tournament.
