The North Carolina Tar Heels have an important visit lined up with one of the program's top targets in the 2027 class in April.

The North Carolina Tar Heels and head coach Bill Belichick have made their presence felt on the recruitment trail over the past two cycles.

Belichick’s first class as the head coach of the Tar Heels was one of the best classes in recent memory for the program, as North Carolina landed a total of 37 high school prospects in the 2026 cycle. This includes nine four-star prospects, such as cornerback Kenton Dopson III and quarterback Travis Burgess. Now, the Tar Heels’ coaching staff will look to build off their impressive stint in the 2026 class in the upcoming cycle.

So far, North Carolina has managed to land multiple commits in the 2027 class, but all eyes will be on 2027 four-star tight end Mason Oglesby this summer as the fanbase awaits his commitment.

Could UNC Land Oglesby?

Oglesby has quickly emerged as a rising prospect coming out of the Midwest, as he is the No. 10 prospect in the state of Indiana and the No. 20 tight end in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports’ Composite.

Throughout his time at New Palestine High School, Oglesby has proven to be a talented playmaker on both sides of the ball. As a sophomore, the highly-touted prospect recorded 364 receiving yards and one touchdown on 35 receptions, while also tallying 24 tackles, 3.5 tackles for losses, and 1.5 sacks on defense. Oglesby would then follow up his successful sophomore season with a breakout season in 2025, finishing with 513 receiving yards and six touchdowns, along with 33 tackles, seven tackles for losses, and 1.5 sacks.

While the Indiana native played on both sides of the football, Oglesby has been recruited as a tight end. At 6-foot-4, 220 lbs., his frame will allow him to be a dynamic weapon once he makes the jump to the college level. Luckily for the Tar Heels, Oglesby is set to take an official visit to Chapel Hill on April 17, which will be a massive opportunity for the coaching staff to make one last final push for the rising prospect.

In order to land Oglesby, however, North Carolina must compete against the likes of his in-state college, the Indiana Hoosiers, who happen to be the reigning National Champions. Many insiders have predicted that the Hoosiers will land Oglesby, so his official visit with the Tar Heels will be an important factor in his decision.
