Carolina has had a very interesting couple of weeks. They went from beating Duke at the buzzer a week prior, to a terrible game at Miami, to Caleb Wilson being out indefinitely, to Henri Veesaar then being out. All of this then culminated into NC State beating UNC by their largest margin (24) since 1962.
You have to go back to Dean Smith's first trip to Raleigh to find a worse loss to NC State than this. NC State was out for blood and it showed. UNC might have been down their two best players, but it should have looked a lot more competitive than that. It certainly should raise some concerns about the depth of UNC moving forward for as long as Wilson and Veesaar are out.
The mystery surrounding Henri Veesaar’s availability is quickly becoming one of the most interesting storylines for North Carolina as the calendar begins to turn toward March. The vagueness around what his injury is and how bad it might be should make every UNC fan very nervous.
Hubert Davis has had a very up and down tenure at Carolina so far. One year it's a National title appearance, then it's missing the tournament, then it's a no. 1 seed in the tournament, then it's the last team to get into the First Four. He's done enough this year to keep his job, obviously, but depending on what happens in March, there could still be a lot of pressure on him even after this year.
UNC faced Syracuse a few weeks ago in Chapel Hill and let a 32 point lead get cut down to six with 30 seconds to go. How will the Heels fair on the road and missing their two best players?
