The Northwestern Wildcats and No. 20 USC Trojans are set to face off this Friday at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The last time that Northwestern and USC played each other in college football was quite some time ago. You would have to go back to the 1995 season to the Rose Bowl to find when it was.

The Wildcats came into that game at 10-1 and were led by former head coach Gary Barnett.

Northwestern lost that game 41-32, but it was still a defining point for the program. Before the 1995 season, the last time the Wildcats had a winning record was in 1970.

It's hard to imagine where Northwestern football would be without Barnett's contributions.
