Northwestern (11-16, 3-13 B1G) travels to Bloomington, Ind., for its preantepenultimate game of the season, looking to extend its five-game winning streak against Indiana (17-10, 8-8 B1G).
The Wildcats survived a gritty late-game battle against the Terrapins last Wednesday, a 78-74 win over Maryland that snapped their five-game skid and reminded the conference that the squad still has some bite. Nick Martinelli was the catalyst in that performance, exploding for 29 points, and head coach Chris Collins will need that same alpha energy tonight to compete in one of the most hostile environments in college basketball.
The ‘Cats will also need consistent help around Martinelli, their Big Ten leading scorer (22.3 ppg). Jordan Clayton's career-high 20 points and Angelo Ciaravino's 16-point effort against Maryland showed what's possible when others step up. Freshman Jake West also continues to impress on the backcourt, averaging 6.4 points and 4.5 assists over his last 12 games.
Containing the Hoosiers’ firepower will be another key to winning. Fifth-year senior Lamar Wilkerson (21.1 ppg) poses the biggest threat after dropping 41 points against Oregon. Indiana makes 10.1 threes per game (fourth in Big Ten) and shoots 78.3% from the free-throw line (second in conference). Northwestern must stay disciplined defensively while contesting Indiana's elite shooters.
