Here's what you need to know about the Wildcats' Senior Night.

Tonight’s game will mark Northwestern’s Senior Night at Welsh-Ryan Arena, which carries a heavy sense of sadness and intrigue tonight. Besides witnessing Nick Martinelli, Justin Mullins, Blake Smith and Gus Hurlburt showing up last time at their home court, it felt like the Northwestern Wildcats (13-16, 5-13 B1G) were essentially "phased out" of the postseason conversation.

However, Chris Collins’ squad has picked the perfect time to find its pulse, riding a season-high three-game winning streak that includes a massive road upset at Indiana and a buzzer-beating thrill over Oregon. While their postseason hope was deemed a month ago, a win tonight against a top-ranked opponent would be a confidence boost before the Big Ten Tournament.

On the other side, No. 15 Purdue (22-7, 12-6 B1G) arrives in Evanston during their most vulnerable stretch of the season. The Boilermakers have dropped three of their last four, including back-to-back losses to Michigan State and Ohio State, questioning their postseason ambitions.

But the Boilermakers are still a great offensive threat, led by one of the greatest Big Ten point guards, Braden Smith (15.0 PPG, 8.7 APG), the interior force of Trey Kaufman-Renn, who averages 8.9 rebounds per game (3rd in Big Ten) and Fletcher Loyer drains 2.7 threes per game (4th in Big Ten).

However, Welsh-Ryan Arena has become a house of horrors for Purdue recently. Before avenging the Wildcats in 2025, Purdue had lost its last two trips to Evanston, both of which famously came when they were hyped with Zach Eddey.

While Purdue wants to use this unranked Quad 2 game to bounce back from a losing stretch, the Wildcats, coming out of a winning streak, have a good chance to create chaos. Northwestern ranks 2nd in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.97) and will look to bleed the shot clock, leaning on a red-hot Martinelli, the Big Ten leading scorer who averages over 26 points during this win streak. If the 'Cats can curb the opponents’ firepower and win the rebounding battle, Senior Night could end with another court storming in Welsh-Ryan.
