Northwestern is headed to the postseason for the second time in three years under head coach David Braun. The Wildcats will take on the Central Michigan Chippewas in the GameAbove Sports Bowl on Friday, December 26, as they search for a sixth consecutive bowl game victory.
At 6-6 (4-5 Big Ten), the 'Cats are attempting to close out an up-and-down season with a win. Northwestern largely beat the teams it was supposed to and lost to the teams it was supposed to, but an October upset over Penn State ended up making the difference for NU.
The GameAbove Sports Bowl will be the Wildcats' second trip to Detroit, Michigan. Northwestern played in the 2003 Motor City Bowl — also at Ford Field — but the two bowl games are technically separate entities due to advertising reasons. Unfortunately for the 'Cats, that trip ended in defeat, as Bowling Green defeated Northwestern, 28-24.
Kickoff for Friday's game is set for 1:00 p.m. ET/12:00 p.m. CT. A win would secure Northwestern's second winning season under Braun and the seventh of the program's last 11 years.
