Braun spoke at length about how Chiles became a trusted player in the Wildcats' program after transferring from Michigan State.

Coach David Braun's Northwestern Wildcats are 6-1 on the season, 3-1 in the Big Ten, headed into Saturday's 3:30 p.m. ET matchup with Dan Lanning's injury-ravaged Oregon Ducks at Autzen Stadium.

The Ducks will be without star quarterback Dante Moore, who's out for the season due to a concussion suffered in Los Angeles against the USC Trojans, but still have plenty of talent with former five-star recruit and Nebraska Cornhuskers quarterback Dylan Raiola expected to start.

Braun joined Barstool Sports Wednesday to speak with a panel of hosts during which he spoke at length about what Chiles means to the Wildcats heading into the big matchup.

Braun: Transfer Portal Like 'Speed Dating'

Braun was told that Chiles and the Wildcats seem like a "perfect fit," after which he began to list what makes the Northwestern and former Michigan State and Oregon State quarterback special.

He compared the transfer portal process of meeting with, interviewing and adding players to "speed dating," but Chiles' Wildcats coaches and teammates have had plenty of time to get to know him since he signed with Braun's program.

"It's easy to look at the film and say, 'Gosh, this is a really talented player...But the fact that Chip (Kelly) and Jerry Neuheisel both had a previous relationship with him from when he was getting recruited in high school...But from day one, it was like, 'Gosh, this is the right guy. High character, team-oriented, wants to do something special, wants to be coached hard, wants to be pushed," Braun continued.

Braun: Chiles Persevered Through "Ups and Downs"

The Wildcats' offense has looked smooth this season with Chiles and Kelly leading the way, but it hasn't always been like that since Chiles set foot on campus, according to the Wildcats head coach.

Braun said Chiles has an uncanny ability to "create relationships with every single guy on our team" since he arrived in Evanston, Ill. The Wildcats went through trial-by-fire this offseason but have come out of it stronger.

"Spring was categorized by a bunch of ups and downs, as he got acquainted with the new offense. He's a competitor, he's a leader, he's here to win, and here to win with guys he really cares about," Braun added.

Chiles is the sixth-highest rated quarterback in the country and is garnering consideration for an invite to New York City for the Heisman Trophy ceremony at the season's conclusion.

His 71.3% completion percentage is the best in his four-year college football career, and over eight percentage points higher than last season's mark.

Fans see the improvement on the field, but what Chiles has done off the field to build bridges between himself and his teammates has been perhaps just as important.

The Wildcats have a chance to finish out what could be the best season in their football program's history, and the Ducks are the team standing in the way of what would be win number seven in eight tries.
