Former Northwestern star Nick Martinelli scored 10 points in just over six minutes against the Warriors, showcasing his scoring ability as the struggling Clippers look for answers.

Former Northwestern standout Nick Martinelli made the most of his opportunity Sunday night, delivering an impressive scoring performance in limited minutes during the Los Angeles Clippers’ 124-112 loss to the Golden State Warriors.

With the Clippers trailing by a significant margin late in the fourth quarter, Martinelli entered the game and provided an immediate spark.

The rookie scored 10 points in just 6 minutes and 11 seconds, shooting 4-of-5 from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. He also grabbed three rebounds and finished with a team-best plus-10 rating during his time on the floor.

It was an efficient performance from the former Wildcat, who made nearly every opportunity count. Martinelli showed his ability to score at multiple levels, knocking down shots from the perimeter while also finding ways to contribute on the glass.

The performance was particularly encouraging given his limited role to begin his NBA career. Martinelli has generally received only a few minutes at the end of games, recording smaller scoring totals of two and three points in previous appearances.

Sunday’s outing was a different story, as he made an immediate impact and gave the Clippers a much-needed offensive boost.

Los Angeles has struggled to begin the season, falling to 1-5 after its fifth consecutive loss. With the team searching for answers and trying to find consistency, Martinelli’s performance could give head coach Tyronn Lue something to consider when evaluating his rotation.

The Clippers have several established players ahead of Martinelli, making consistent playing time difficult to earn. However, his ability to provide efficient scoring off the bench could make him an intriguing option as the season progresses.

Martinelli arrived in the NBA after an outstanding collegiate career at Northwestern. During his senior season in 2025-26, he established himself as one of the most productive scorers in college basketball, averaging more than 20 points per game and earning recognition as one of the Big Ten’s top offensive players.

The Glenview, Illinois, native was known for his scoring ability, offensive versatility and confidence with the basketball. He carried that production into the NBA preseason, showing flashes of the offensive talent that made him such a standout in Evanston.

Now, Martinelli is working to prove that his scoring ability can translate against the best players in the world. Sunday’s performance was a promising step, particularly considering how little time he has had to make an impression.

It remains to be seen whether the Clippers will give the rookie a larger role, but he certainly made a case for more opportunities. With Los Angeles looking to turn its season around, Martinelli could provide an unexpected spark if he continues to make the most of his minutes.
