Former Northwestern standout Melannie Daley is headed overseas after signing her first professional contract with Finland's Peli-Karhut, becoming another Wildcat to continue her basketball career at the professional level.
Former Northwestern standout Melannie Daley is taking the next step in her basketball career.
Daley has signed her first professional contract with Peli-Karhut of Finland's top women's basketball league, allowing the former Wildcat to continue her career overseas in one of Europe's top professional leagues
The signing marks another milestone for Northwestern women's basketball as the program continues producing players capable of competing professionally around the world.
Daley leaves Evanston after four seasons in which she steadily developed into one of the Wildcats' most dependable offensive players.
After averaging just 6.5 points per game as a freshman, she emerged as one of Northwestern's top scorers during her final two seasons. As a junior, Daley averaged 13.3 points per game while shooting nearly 50% from the field before following that with an impressive senior campaign in which she averaged 11.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 46.7% from the floor.
Her senior season featured several memorable performances.
Daley scored a season-high 23 points in Northwestern's win over Utah before delivering one of the biggest moments of the season by hitting the game-winning basket in overtime against UNLV after finishing with 21 points and seven rebounds.
She also recorded four 20-point performances and reached double figures in scoring 16 times during her final collegiate season.
Beyond the scoring, Daley became one of Northwestern's most complete players.
She consistently contributed as a playmaker and defender, recording 10 games with at least four assists while routinely matching up against some of the Big Ten's top players. Her versatility and efficient scoring helped make her one of the Wildcats' most reliable veterans throughout her collegiate career.

Playing for Peli-Karhut gives Daley the chance to continue developing her game against professional competition while representing Northwestern on an international stage. Competing overseas has become a common path for former college standouts, allowing players to gain valuable experience while continuing their professional careers.
Her signing also reflects the continued growth of Northwestern basketball.
Daley becomes the second former Northwestern player this offseason to sign a professional contract overseas, joining Grace Sullivan, who recently signed with a club in Belgium.
As more former Wildcats earn professional opportunities, whether in the WNBA, overseas leagues or coaching, the program continues to expand its presence beyond Evanston. Daley now joins that growing list, carrying the experience, leadership and winning mentality she developed at Northwestern into the next chapter of her career.
Beginning her professional career in Finland will allow Daley to continue developing her game against high-level competition while adding another chapter to Northwestern's growing legacy of producing professional talent.
