After a big week of commitments, Northwestern came up short in a battle for a four-star recruit.
It was a home run of a week for Northwestern in the recruiting department, but not every swing resulted in a hit.
Four-star offensive tackle Jasper Ngokwere announced his commitment to Vanderbilt University on June 4.
Ngokwere, a 6'6" 290-pound product out of Richardson, Texas, took a visit to Northwestern in early May.
The Wildcats came up short of locking down the tackle, along with programs such as Texas Tech, Texas and Arizona.
Northwestern offered Ngokwere on January 27. Two days later, the Commodores offered him on the 29th.
Northwestern made his final four with the Red Raiders and Longhorns, as the tackle announced he would be choosing between the trio and the Commodores on June 3.
He was scheduled for visits to Lubbock, Austin and Columbia's Missouri Tigers, but with him now donning the black and gold of Vandy, that may be history.
After making his trip to Evanston, Ngokwere visited Nashville to check out the Commodores on May 29, committing to the SEC program just days later.
This would have been a big time get for the Cats, and in general, a big time get for any program.
Ngokwere is a top-25 tackle in the 2027 class, ranked the 32nd best player in the loaded state of Texas.
Some writers and publications have already listed him as Vanderbilt's biggest offensive line commit in history.
A multi-sport athlete, playing basketball and competing in shot put, Ngokwere's physical and athletic abilities have already projected him to have a high ceiling, having the frame of a potential future NFL talent.
Where does that leave Northwestern and their offensive line needs?
For the Class of 2027, the Cats have locked down two linemen: IOL Cade Reikowski and OT Josiah Wallace.
With Reikowski ranked at an 87 and Wallace a 88, both three stars, an addition like Ngokwere would have been the cherry on top of a loaded trio in the trenches.
For 2026, the Wildcats' highest ranked recruit came in the form of interior lineman Owen Fors.
Just like Ngokwere, Fors sports the same ranking of a four-star, 90-grade lineman, but smaller specs. Fors comes in at 6'4", 290.
Despite the loss on the recruiting circuit, things are still looking up for the offensive line future for the Wildcats.
After new offensive line coach Tim Drevno came aboard in January, followed by Caleb Tiernan being selected in round three of the 2026 NFL Draft, Northwestern is steadily growing to be a force in the offensive trenches for years to come.
